Need to borrow this thread to ask a quetion on the Pentax-M 50mm f1.7
First I must say this is a very sharp lens, takes very good portrait.
However, for scenery shorts, with focus set to infinity, results are soft.... quite bad in fact.

Hope someone can help me on how to get sharp results for scenery as well.... or could it be my copy has an infinity focus problem ? Thanks.... :)

Some lenses do have problem focusing at infinity, especially if you simply turn the focus ring all the way to the infinity mark. If you have a lens like this, you can't rely on the infinity mark but the focusing confirmation (either by the camera or by your eye). Or you can bring the lens to a techincian to get it recalibrated (might not worth it if it's a cheap old lens).

Hope this helps.

Thanks fengwei... I'll try out your suggestion. If still dun work, I'll just use it as a portrait lens lor.

I have a copy of this lens. M50/1.7 is a very sharp lens. I don't remember there is a infinity problem with this lens. Has this lens been opened up for servicing before? Try to use the focus confirmation on the camera body like what fengwei mentioned. If you can't turn all the way to infinity, maybe you can try to have it service/repair.

Mine is dirty.. I gotto have it clean up soon.

cheerss..

Thanks for the advice.... I've tried the manual checking and focus is sharp on infinity.
After playing with it... turns out lens ok... I was the problem.

Seems that the camera must start in Manual mode, else the apecture is always wide open even if I turn the apeture ring to 22 :dunno: . Over exposure was the cause of the soft results.

I am stilling trying to find this lense. Can we actually order from our agent from Singapore? I saw the price list indicating 355! i.e. they'll order for you?
