To all CS members,

The CS admin and mod team has come to an agreement to permanently ban the accounts of singaporefleet, canonminolta and lowepro.

Reason: We have information that strongly indicates the 3 accounts are registered by the same person, and the owner has used the different nicks for up-bidding his own sales in the B&S forum.

We understand that some members may have pending transactions with the person behind these 3 nicks, and we appologize sincerely for any inconvenience caused.

At this time we reserve the right to not disclose any further details or any of the information that has led us to this decision.

If you have any concerns about this incident or the use of multiple nicks in general you may post it here and we will try our best to address them. However, please read the previous paragrah again before you post your questions.

The admin and mod team will be actively screening for similar occurrences and will not hesitate to take necessary action for similar offences.

Thank you for your understanding.

Roy, since you mentioned that concerns with the use of multiple nicks can be posted here:

Are multiple nicks even allowed on this forum? I keep seeing this one fella trying to sell the same things using varying nicks and even various names, or aliases.

The only reason I can surmise for people using multiple nicks is for the purpose of deceit. And whether the deceit is big or small, it's still deceit.

Sometimes ppl use multiple nicknames to talk to himself (herself), sounds spooky, I wonder do they talk to themselves the same way in real world?

Well done mods and admins. It's about time.

If there are

For the time being, let's just say that we discourage members from openning multiple accounts, and definitely will take action when members use multiple accounts for deceit.

The best defence for buyers is to do their homework. Look around different places and talk to friends to find out the fair price for an item you are intending to buy, and then decide on a price you are willing to pay. Don't be affected by what others are bidding for that item especially if the bid price seems high. Always determine the value of the item based on its fair market value and its condition. In that way a dishonest seller cannot benefit much from upbidding his own sales using a different nick.

what about impersonation of gender? :bsmilie:

could be a schizophrenic
today he is "william" a scholarly lecturer
tomorrow he is "jane" a street hooker
day after tomorrow he is "ah tee" a 12 year old student

well, this hobby has its fair share of weirdos. :dunno:

Actually what's to stop the guilty party registering some more new nicks over time and attempting the same tricks further down the road.

I think a more stringent system of validating sellers need to be in place to ensure activities like bid padding and selling shoddy gear can be avoided. A feedback system for sucessful past transactions can be a good idea if done right. A separate sign on to sell which has gone through some sort of validation process may also work.

What about using NPS (S) forums method? All new users have to submit an email account. Those registering with free emails have to click on a link in their email to activate, send their HP numbers to mods/admins, and reply to an email sent by the mods/admins before their accounts are activate. This way can help to reduce multiple nicks unless those people with multiple phone numbers register more than once...

2 potential problems with this approach:
1) short of calling every new HP/Phone number that was submitted, there's no way to verify the authencity
2) the mod/admins are going to be overloaded with the amount of new registrations
