A99

Played with it at the Changi Airport a few days ago, $3626, and yesterday again in Yokohama. I am surprised I didn't like the EVF, it's hard to see details in dark areas and the resolution isn't good enough to see facial expressions in the distance. The image through the VF also seems to be smaller than through a full-frame OVF (compared it to Mark III and D800 in store). I could test the AF with the 28-75mm F2.8 only. I hope it's the lens because it was a tad slow for a camera with dedicated DPAF sensor (compared to the EF 24-105mm F4) and the sensitivity wasn't jaw dropping. There was also an issue with the startup time, even after the camera woke up again it took 2 sec or so every time before the AF worked.

Maybe in the future, firmware update might solve some of this problems?;)

There you go.. yea it can be changed. Thats why we always say.. first thing to do when 1 get their camera (after testing to make sure it worked properly) is to read the manuals..or always go back to it if one aren't sure with the settings.

On the side note. Sony put A99 auto to 6400 by default..maybe to them it just meant it can produce clean images up till 6400?.
Its alot improvement. But can be better tho. :bsmilie:

It shows reading the manual once getting a new camera is crucial. So to be honest the A99 is a great improvement/ improvement over its predecessors the A900 and A77?

But as what i think and see from the internet..I think the ISO performance for A99 is a great improvement. (again i may be wrong). :bsmilie:

Gotta wait for more experienced people to comment on this..

Hahas! I see. As for me, I was planning on upgrading to A77 from my A55. But when the A57 appear on the market, from reviews, pics and information, it seem it was slightly better in terms of noise performance. Then, when the A99 was released I realise it might be better then the 2 in terms of specs and it being the first EVF full frame. I then release that the A99 might just be the camera upgrade I am looking for!;) I am so an EVF fanatic.

What you meant by I can change that? The new additional features in Sony A99 is that they have auto ISO in Manual mode, but the range is between iSO 100 to 6400. I cannot find anywhere under settings to change this range. You know where to change it?

Go to ISO settings, move up to Auto ISO and then move the selector right, it will allow you to set the min and max ISO for Auto ISO mode. Hope this helps.

Also, the manual I got in the box is the summarized version and is horribly inadequate. Try searching for and downloading the full manual. It is about 200+ pages.

Yes. Thanks got it. Yah the one inside the box is just basic instruction manual. The full manual can be found either on the CD or on the website.

The price for body-only in SG is SGD 3,699. I bet anyone who took the HK package deal will be happy. ;)

RRP is 3899 sgd. I saw from Sony website.

I'm not talking rrp. I'm referring to the initial shop offers. :-)

Yah, you just registered your warranty with MySony and selected the correct Sony shop that you bought from and the backend will do the warranty end date.

Does that Sony Store you bought from has more $19 battery for sale? I don't mind getting another one.

I just have a chat with Sony Customer Centre. Apparently the 2 years + 3 months warranty are special promotion for purchase from Sony Store Istean Orchard, Bugis, IMM (but currently under renovated) only. Their system tracked the S/N and update the warranty automatically. My set was an internal stock transfer from Sony Store Changi Airport which is not under this promotion. Therefore my warranty was initially 1 year + 3 months which was reflected yesterday and they have to update it manually after I called them.

Looking at this shows how much the A99 can be pushed in terms of the noise performance and image quality!! So loveing it!

Some picture of comparing A99 and A850

Sorry, noob question, is a 30mb/s SD card fast enough for the A99?

Thinking of getting a Sandisk class 10 SDXC card

You'll notice much faster buffer clearing with the 95mb/s cards especially if you shoot raw
