Yes, of course! It comes in the case with the Aston Martin and the girl. The chopper is reserved for the Alpha A1 with 36MP sensor.

:bsmilie: U kidding right. Why would they. The A99 is not expensive enough for it to come with that casing. You probably still get a orange box with bubble wrap around your sparkling new A99. Thats it.

That casing you saw is more likely for the SAL300G II. More likely..but may not too.:dunno:

I just saw the Amazon.com Best Sellers in Digital SLR Cameras ranking and I am surprised the A99 seems to be below the A900.

If you can afford the A99, the grip also not cheap. Then in the end, the weight is roughly 2KG with 3(or 2?) batteries. (1 in body, 2 in grip. Current A850/A900 only in grip) Anyway, hopes to see you having it when launch and then, backpack to oversea for landscape photos. Huat Ah!

Too little AF points and not sure how good is the noise performance n etc.
Heck the video function.... since i'll nv press that button anyway. Right now..i really cant justify the price of it. I believe many feels the same too. Really not surprise with its ranking..

I got the RX100, I did use video on kids only. A99 focus points really limit, still need to use half press + recompose skill. FF really shiok, as my A850 did to me, haha! Make sure get the grip too, very important! Time to save $ for 70-400mm, huat ah!

A99 might lose me as a Sony user. First, the EVF then they decide to use SD card? Seriously, I won't be buying it. The price is attractive though.

Take the video out, put back OVF, put back CF, give me 2 and the do it will industry first on noise. I will buy it in a heart beat.

EVF is good, but come on...

A900 should last me another few years and if nothing from Sony, I am gone from Sony camp.

I need a pro level camera.

Hart

I think there is zero chance Sony will produce a DSLR camera again. No point in waiting for that.

Good riddance ! :sticktong

...and don't pull an Arnold Schwarzenegger on us (you know? as in "I'll be back") :D;)

...just kidding ! ...Sony wouldn't improve without your jumping on their backs ! :sweatsm:

Cf cards , Ovf , mirror box are essentials of the Dslr that Sony will not pursue .

Extreme Miniaturization of the camera , pushing the edges of technology , exploring new segments , merging of video and still picture , massive penetration into the prosumer and enthusiast market will be Sony strategy in the coming years.

It may be unfortunate that alpha mount users are feeling the void at this moment . But its also understandable for Traditionalist and purist to not find Sony offering attractive.

Cf cards are not essential. Very few camera bodies use them nowadays. Ovf is a matter of taste really

To be honest, I am nobody, and Sony will do what they want to do to ensure their business thrive. Losing me as an user but they gain million others will be better choice for them.

Just a pity that I am not eager to use their gear anymore.

Its not that they are essential or not or we are purist and things like that. I generally looking at it from practical point of view as a professional photographer and apply it to the condition that I use the camera with.

CF cards are better for me because handling smaller cards increases the chance of me losing the card.
OVF is better for me as I can see better. EVF is great by the way, but I just find it difficult to see when it is in very dark environment with the contrast.

I am happy to lose that chunky mirror box, but if they can find a way to keep the OVF or even hybrid system like Fuji would be great.

A99 is a great products, but what I trying to say is, it doesn't fit in my requirement. Suddenly Nikon D600 seems to be a better choice.

A camera a pro would like to use? not try to be a smart a** here, but A99 to me seems more like a DSLT and skew towards Video rather than camera. I can understand they want to capture the market where canon 5D series for portable DSLR with video function.

The way I see it, the Still imaging market will and has shrink and make way for video and I hope still imaging won't become a niche.

Hart

The Fuji hybrid VF is something totally different. You don't want that on a SLR type of camera. ;-)

There is no such thing as a professional camera. I can't hear it anymore... :*)

A camera a pro would like to use?

So what is a 'pro' in your terms? The proper definition of professional (as shortened in the local slang) is a person does specific for a living, meaning, a photographer who shoots to put food on the table. The definition as so defined in local slang, is a person with great skill in his field, a person who can take good photographs.

These two terms are not mutually exclusive. There can be this dude who shoots for a living yet has the sense of a five year old. There can be this lady who shoots in her free time and finds herself winning a Pulitzer because she happened to be at the right place and right time. The guy would think that a A37 would suit him because that's all he needs but the lady thinks that the A99 is right up her alley because it has she wants to get the best. What about the doctor who has money to blow and will only buy the best for himself, thus, get an A99. Is he a pro?

Let's look at the competition. Canon says that the 1D series is their top of the line camera built for persons at the professional level, with all the bells and whistles, and at professional prices. However, you see many persons at this level who prefer to use a 5D MkIII or a 7D, despite being aimed at the prosumer, for a number of reasons, such as smaller size, lighter weight or the crop factor that gives them additional reach. And of course, they pay only the prosumer level prices for them, a very important detail in the P&L sheet.

So, let us review, what is a pro and what they need or want?

And before anyone asks why a Canon user is here. It's because he is looking at the A99 to supplement what he already has and what do he cannot do with what he has. Like auto-focusing Zeiss primes and a quick auto-focus while in live view through a swivel screen. And yes, he wants the full frame.

thanks for reinforcing that :bsmilie:

and everyone has different perceptions on what "gear" defines a professional. but being responsible as someone people look up to, don't just slam a product because of personal preference.
