A77 Preview

Hmm but you never find it's laggy when switching from ovf to evf and the momentary freeze at half press ?

Yah the thing is I didn't see much tearing in the x100 evf .

Let's see if this will be a game changer indeed

because it's not an EVF? i thought it's an OVF but with something to project the GUI onto the OVF, thus giving the user a view of the settings thru the viewfinder?

hmm this i gotta see. will be heading there later

Woah... interesting times... let's see if the A77 will be a game changer like the A700, A900 and A33/55 are... they changed the perception of quality at a reasonable price point... I am just hoping the A77 packs some secret feature that will send the other players back to the drawing boards... :)

Amen to that.

Actually how the hybrid works is. When its a normal ovf, you will see overlay of electronic information in the ovf.

But there is still parallax error in the ovf and like rangefinders, there are frame lines in the ovf to allow you to frame your composition.

There is also an option to activate the evf by pulling a lever. Once that is done the ovf becomes an evf that shows you 100 percent of the lens view.

I guess the uncertainty of evf surrounds the issue of composing under low Light and lags. Solve these 2 issues then ovf maybe will not be missed.

I wonder if the recent events in Japan will cause further delay to the launch of the A77?

Its unavoidable if its made in japan. Even if the factory is not affected, the ports and transport will be affected as well.

Unless its from their thai factory, but then many parts are still from japan, so still will be delayed.

Anyway at such difficult times, we should wish them well and hope for their fast recovery instead of blaming them of delays. It will take at least 3-6mths for them to get started again.

Didnt got chance to visit IT show this time round, if not would have gotten the x100 liao, but probably a blessing in disguise for me.

How do you find the overall operations of x100 after your testing? Is the af fast like nex5? It seems the sluggish performance has affected you quite a bit.

If using nex5 as benchmark, how would you rate x100 as a whole?

Though have seen some superb pics and video samples, esp the super clean images at iso6400, i am still withholding whether to part my money for such premium price. I guess the only worry for me is the af speed and fixed focal length.

Hm I think compared to nex, the operations and speed for adjusting settings is definitely better on x100.

But it's the other aspect of operations that has affected me . I did experienced slight focus confirmation lag and lags between changing views from ovf/evf and during preview of pictures on rear LCD.

This may be OT but to answer your question. Ask yourself do you fancy a leica x1 or wants a feeling of using a m8/9 ? If yes then the camera is good for you.

If you are going to get this as a handsome looking pns. You might be disappointed as this is a niche camera where some aspects may not be as good pns or normal dslr.

(SR4) Sony A77 to be unveiled in Q3 (third quarter)

A few days ago a dutch A77 rumor created a lot of buzz announcing the A77 would be announced in April. As our trusted sources pointed out quickly that rumor is NOT TRUE! De facto the rumor was a mix of already published SonyAlphaRumors and a few added WRONG specs. As you know the “A77 packshots are ready and currently being reviewed by management.“. If no problems will occur during that process the A77 will be on market in Q3 (July-September).

All sources point me out that this will be an amazing camera. Much better than anything out there (in the APS-C world). We should expect a real huge improvement over the Sony A55. They know that people is frustrated because of the long wait. But they have not a single doubt that it will be worth the wait!

I repost our correct specs (collected form trusted SonyAlphaRumors sources):
- 24 megapixel sensor
- FullHD
- New advanced OLED(?) EVF
- UNCONFIRMED -> There were rumors (and also a Sony patent) about some kind of hybrid viewfinder ( a là Fuji X100 (Click here to see that camera on Amazon)?).
- ISO will go ‘up into the hundreds of thousands’
- price will be in the same area of the Canon 60D ($900-1200. Click here to check price)
- The A77 has a bigger and robust body compared to current SLT cameras.
- The A77 will not have a flip-up mode to allow shooting without this extra sheet of glass in place.
- It will take CF+SD+MS cards, of which you can use two at the same time.
- With the new battery you can take around 1.000 pictures.
