A77 Preview

sorry pardon me wat is OVF ?
sony currently has 3 different cameras.

1) Traditional Reflex Mirror SLR. uses an OVF. mirror flips out of the way to let the sensor capture the image

then came the mirrorless

2) NEX with an 18mm flange focal length. that meant smaller and slimmer bodies.

and shortly, what came running after it was the

3) SLT... which stands for Single Lens Translucent and allows light to pass through the fixed mirror, and uses an EVF. so no mirror flipping involved. (but quite a few people flipped fingers on this one :bsmilie:)

Optical viewfinder. it's the one that you use to look through and frame your picture and focus before snapping. The SLT and Nex (EVILs for that matter) uses the electronic viewfinder or EVF these days.

As has been discussed to death and confirmed by Sony, it's an SLT, like the A55. Therefore uses an EVF. As for EVF vs. OVF, there are pros and cons. On one hand, you're not seeing the "real" scene, on the other, you are seeing exactly what your picture will look like, including metering, whitebalance, etc.

Which is quite divided as well.. people like me will tell you that whatever your sensor cannot "see" will not be in the picture anyway, so doesnt matter lor.. haha

I recall daredevil once said tt as a landscape photog, seeing the real scene is important and it matters not whether the camera sees it.. to which i still have not figured out why and what he really meant...

Quick fix: Keep both eyes open. :P

Maybe u can give us proof that there is an A99 then, if u feel that there is an A99.

How can an item be considered to exist, when it isnt even manufactured yet?

For example will u say that there is an iphone6?

Apple will probably keep coming out with iphones, and there's a high possibility that an iphone6 will come sooner or later.

But it doesnt exist now, so there's no such thing as an iphone6.

Sony will probably release a full frame DSLR or DSLT in 2012, but it doesnt exist yet, and thus there is no such thing as an A99.

yup. but your first post on "there is no A99" makes it sound like it's never gonna happen. i think some press release from earlier this year was teasing on the upcoming FF..

compare "There is Any" and "There isn't any Yet". there is a difference especially when written and typed. not saying that you might be wrong, but grammar is important when conveying a message..

saw how heartbroken bro frederickykfoo was :bsmilie:

Nvm, his heart will heal and he'll buy another camera in the meantime. :bsmilie:

Much better then waiting forever for vapourware ! ...heaven's know how many jumped ship waiting for the A700 replacement ! :dunno:

This is my EXACT sentence:

"There is no A99 camera."

This statement is a Fact. There is no A99, nor is there an iphone 6 (as I used in my example).

This is SIMPLE English.

I did not say Sony will not be coming out with a full frame camera, nor did I say Apple wont be coming out with an Iphone 6. But the fact is, there isnt an A99 nor iphone 6 now.

That was ur own misinterpretation of a simple English sentence.

PS: The Full Frame DSLT might not even be named A99, I think there's a high possibility that it will be named A88 instead, leaving room for future naming of upgraded model.

There are various advantages with using EVF over an OVF actually.

But due to the bad reputation of EVFs (which many people used when the technology is still new and EVF is lousy at that time), people tends to think very negatively of having an EVF, and thus they already had a bad opinion of it without even trying out the DSLT's EVF. I used to own a bridge camera (those SLR lookalike) many years back, and it has an EVF as well. The EVF is pretty low res and performs badly in low light. Before owning a A55, i also had the opinion that an EVF will not be very good, but after playing with the A55, then I realised that the EVF in this camera is way better than the EVF in my old camera.

EVF technology has come a long way from when it was first implemented in old cameras. For those that are still skeptical about the A77 having an EVF instead of OVF, I strongly urge u too all to give EVF a chance, play with the A77 and then u will know that EVF is much better than what u had expected. Dont think negatively about EVF due to past experiences with it. Try out the A77, see how the new EVF performs, then judge for urself.

Speaking of which, there's a very nice forum thread over at dpreview:

"Why the A55 EVF outperforms the OVF of my A900!"

Worth a read. It's from a well-respected astrophotographer.

i wonder the size of a77
hope it will be same size as current a55

As already discussed and disclosed, NO, it's not the tiny A55 size. It's a semi-pro body and is bigger, with a better grip, ability to use a VG, etc.

I'm super happy it's closer to the A700 size than to the A55.
