"One feature that Sony made much of the new sensor's integration of the 12-bit A/D converters right on the chip itself, rather than as separate components as on most digital SLR cameras. The advantage of having the A/D converters right on the Sony A700's sensor is that there's no chance of noise pickup in the connections between the converters and the sensor readout cells. It's always a design challenge in any mixed-signal (analog and digital) system to avoid picking up digital-generated noise in the low-level analog circuitry. By moving the A/D converters directly onto the sensor silicon itself, Sony engineers have eliminated an entire category of possible noise issues."

D80 seems to have better noise control at ISO3200 ....... :think:
Anyway it's pre-production A700 model ......otherwise it's back to drawing board for Sony. :what:
The test is hardly representative as you usually dun shoot with such a flat colour and surface... anyway, the test shots in Pop Photo shows that the images even at ISO6400 are usable... there was no complain of very bad noise... altho small, the files showed pretty good detail... little smearing... I expect those were shot in RAW and post-processed using a noise remover software... overall still excellent but may not be the noise leader at the moment until we have real tests...
So it mean the availability is within september? :sweat:

dun look as fierce as 7D liao... still prefer a external ev dial. and minus the shooting modes... PASM enuff...
