A6000

Same here. I also have i40 with A6000. No problem.

Lost eyecup, no problem. I realised I can see 100% of the frame clearly only when I take out the eyecup.

When i using nex 6, the eye cap stay in box. Then A6000, the cap stay in box too !!!

eBay selling spare eyecup for ~$10. Hoot a few for spares.

or for those who dun mind permanent, a few drops of super glue should do the trick

Hi guys,

I've been using Canon for a long time and finally find it very tempting to move into Sony for its much lighter weight, smaller size, excellent AF and image quality.

How do you decide getting the A6000 instead of the A7II? Is it simply because of the huge price difference and mainly cos one is full-frame and the other is cropped? I can't decide between these 2 or even the A5100 as I think I might not use external flash that often.

Is the kit lens 16-50mm good or should I just buy the body and another better standard zoom lens?

Thanks for any advice. Appreciate it from a Sony newcomer! :)

I was on E mount for the longest time. getting an A7 will mean I will need to start my lenses from ground zero, since A7 is Sony's first FF series.

in addition, I take children photos sometimes, the AF-C on the A6000 will come in handy

I tried the continous auto focus on fast moving subject but results not sharp.

This question will depend on what you shoot most often.
There's no doubt the a6k has a faster AF and better burst mode and is much smaller a camera than the a7ii..the a7ii is even bigger than the older a7 series.
What the a7ii has is FF and IBIS.FF also means bigger and more expensive lenses but better IQ and ISO for sure.
IBIS only works for objects that don't move, whicn brings you back to the initial question, what wil you be shooting most?

If you're gong to shoot running pets or kids, then the a7ii isn't going to work as well as the a6000.
The a7ii personally is a jack of all trades but master of none. It's an ok action camera, and ok landscape camera, and ok portrait camera but it's not fantastic in any.
That's why i have both the a6000 and a7r and won't be getting the a7ii and rather hope for the a9 in a few months will merge the two into one.
i use the a7r when resolution is absolutely necessary.
And for all other times, i use the a6k.

As for the kit lens, it is small and compact and has a useable zoom...But it's only good for random snaps and family events etc..it's not going to be the sharpest and best lens for the a6k. I actually use my FE lenses on the a6k sometimes when i need better quality with fast AF.

Hope this helps.

I have some Canon 3rd party lenses from Sigma & Tamron cause I also have a Canon Eos 650D. Was wondering if theres any adaptor for use on a6000 that allow functionality of autofocus, aperture, shutterspeed & ISO. So that I can use these lenses on the a6000 .

Cannot advise you on the A6k vs A7II but for me, the kit lens of 1650 is the lens that I used. Do note that I'm amateur though...

Also thought that the pricing now is definitely a good buy with the Sony Christmas offer till Jan 4 .

Bought last piece white A6000L from Expo Megatex for $692. Display set but brand new, only few ppl touch. Was planning to choose tis or EPL7. Then the 30% disc too much to resist.

The original adaptor is this one

There are cheap clones which you can find off ebay. I bought this one

Autofocus is pretty bad with this so most people resort to manual focusing which is fairly easy with the NEX/Alpha cameras cos focus peaking shows which part of the image is in focus.

Aperture and image stabilization still work (check the list on their website to see which lenses have been tested).

If you have a lot of Canon EF type lenses and want to retain good autofocus, you might want to check out the EOS 100D which is pretty darn small also. It does most things well though the A6000 has some really neat modes Canon hasn't got yet... like eye AF, auto panorama...

Thanks spinworkxroy and others for the detailed advice. Ok will decide on a suitable model in due time. I didn't know the A7II's price is so much diff compared to A6000. It's definitely out for me. :) So it's between either the A6000 or A5100.

I did some reading and realize they are very similar. Except that mainly, A6000 has hotshoe and can take more fps. But some users are complaining that the cheaper and lower model A5100 can do touch screen shooting and has better video capability than the A6000!

I certainly don't need 11 fps from the A6000 and I don't really foresee a need for external flash as this cam is more for convenience of carrying around to shoot anything interesting. So the cheaper A5100 looks tempting.... :)

Although I love the Canon 100D for its compact size, traditional DSLRs can't shoot well using the LCD screen. I don't really understand why some like to use the viewfinder to shoot (not because of bright sunlight). I personally like to shoot from LCD as it is quick and convenient so I think Sony's A series models do fit the bill.

Edited: Opps... also read A6000 has dual dials which make for better control.... hmmm... this one is quite important to me. Will see how.

Read some reviews on the 16-50mm lens that comes with the A6000. Seems like the corners of images are soft even at smaller apertures.

16-50mm kit:

I thought the much more expensive Carl Zeiss 16-70mm will be a lot sharper. But reviews are saying it's only marginally better than the kit lens. And this reviewer thinks it's too expensive with image quality not as great as he would expect (scroll directly down to his Conclusion section):

Vario-Tessar T* E 16-70mm F4 ZA OSS:

So are there any other decent choices you all use for E-mount standard zoom lenses for A6000?

Thanks for sharing.
