A6000

If not wrong should be c1. . Maybe I custom it to that button

Ah, i got myself mixed up.haha..i didn't need this feature after all becaue my a7r is alwasy in spot metering mode..i never trust it's WIDE AF..it's mostly wrong..
It's the a6000 that i want a quick way to switch between Wide AF (For PDAF) and spot when i need it sometimes...it's a 2 button process now..looks like it will always be a 2 button process..not a big issue...still quick enough.

Yup it's a 2 button process for a6000.. Someone suggested a focus lock-on approach that pretty interesting too.. cheers

while we are on the topic of AF, would like to check with you guys what is the difference b/w AF-Centre vs AF-Flexible spot.

I know for Flexible spot you can change the location of the focus point and the A6000 will track the object as it moves. But we can achieve the same as using AF-Centre to focus on the object by half pressing the shutter, and then recompose? The "box" will also move with the object if the object moves within your field of view.

Another question will be what's the difference b/w Lock-on AF "ON" vs "start with shutter"? When should I use which? I normally set it to "Start with Shutter" so I do not need to pre-set object to track before each shot.

Does Wide AF performs better on A6000? I don't use Wide AF as it seems to get it mostly wrong on my A6000. Why do u need to switch between Wide AD and spot metering?

Hi,

1st time posting.

Interested to get the a6000 with the kit lens (SELP1650). Am using the bulky Canon 1000D bought few yrs back.

Would like to ask which prime lenses would be a gd complement to the above? the SEL50F18 or SEL35F18?

Thanks.

Depends on where u tend to shoot at 50mm or 35mm on your zoom lens. My personally pick would be the 50 because it's cheaper sharper and nicer bokeh.

If the form factor is not an issue and u have more budget, I would recommend you to get the A6000 body only and the other lens (the SEL1670F4 or the SEL18105G if u want to get a zoom). Reason is that the kit Zoom's IQ leaves much to be desired

I don't use wide, I normally use Centre, cos it seems to give me more control on what to focus on. However, spinworkxroy mentioned that he wants a quick way to switch between wide and spot, I am wondering if he/she discovered something I don't know about the Wide AF.

Just wanted to drop a note to tell you that there is an offer in the US, you can buy both Zeiss Touit 32 and 12 for just USD919 to use on your A6000.

Yes. BBBBB!! The split pricing is not bad too.

Wow Tats great price! Tks for sharing :)

Kinda prefer the silver body. If only, the silver body is also available in the body-only config.

Where in US for such great price?

Really amazing offer. Two for the price of a Touit 12mm f2.8. LOL I do wonder when they will ship it though. 4 months time?

Amazing offer but too bad the build quality is not worth a mention, even if it's a zeiss made lens. I was going to spend the money on the touit 32 when i visited CliCK! but after holding it for like 10 mins, No go. The focus was noisy and slow. The rubber grip just doesn't work here consider the type of humid weather we have plus the rubber scratches easily, esp the copy i had, the rubber cutting wasn't even perfect and inline with the lens. A sony build zeiss have better build quality.

Bought the time lapse app for the A6000. S$13. Not bad. :D

Oops I was referring to miniature timelapse

The reason i switch between wide and spot AF very often is becuase of what i shoot and the lens i use. Most of the time, the FE55 F1.8 is on my A6000 and i only shoot portraits so with the fe55, it's more like an 85mm lens in a way.
Shooting at f1.8 or f2.8, the DOF is very shallow and the WideAF sometimes doesn't get focus spot on the eyes.Especially when there are 2 people in the frame, it sometimes focuses in between causing out of focus eyes.

It's because of this, i need to use the spot af to move to the correct focus point i need. Yes there's the eye-af but that doesn't work all the time either especially when the subjects aren't actually looking at you :)..spot AF is still the best control you will have with AF points. Wide AF works most times but not when really close up and at really wide apertures.
