A6000

I did a quick AF-A test with the a6k and couple of lenses and i found it weird. Basically with WIDE AF and AF-A, when you focus on the object and move, its supposed to switch to AF-C and track correct?

I tested this with the 1650, 55210, FE55F1.8 and FE2470F4
The ONLY lens that the AF-A actually worked on was the FE55f1.8..
The other lenses, never switched to AF-C and just lost focus completely. Why is this so?

And another thing i found...this camera must really be optimized only for the 1560 lens..when i tested AF-C and burst mode, the ONLY lens to have about 90% in focus images was this lens..all the others all only had like 30% in focus..

hmmm what conditions did you do the test in? Could it be low-light or indoors?

The A6000 is really amazing.. do a test shoot at Icube, it track very well and able "skip" object that "cut" into shot.

Realize I can't post any pic after 30 days since I'm new register...

Using 55mmf1.8 lens shoot at Af-c, zone, F2.2 ISO800

Found yet another problem with the camera...
With the kit lens..when i turn ONLY optical zoom on, it still allows me to go to 1.4x digital zoom??? shoudn't it stop at 50mm and not go beyond?
Of course when i turn digital zoom on it will go over 2x digital zoom...
The nex when you set it to only optical, it stops at 50mm..why does this go beyond?
Is my camera a lemon???

Doubt it very much, sounds more like a firmware issue...

Well, it's the default firmware...there's no update anyways.
And i have asked other owners and they don't have this problem...
And i'm sure the "setting" works because IF i turn digital zoom on, i do get over 2x zoom...but when i turn it off..it only gives me 1.4x..dun ask me why..it shouldn't even allow any digital zoom in the first place..

try test set n compare

Dun have 1650 lens so cannot try. 1670 no issue here.

ya..i will have to go down to a sony store to test out the demo sets and compare..
The zoom issue only occurs on PZ lenses since the other zooms are manual...so its not that big a deal since i don't use the 1650 much :)

but the AF-A issue...that i want to try out myself..seems like only my FE55 works...maybe it's because it was indoor and the ISO was at 3200..time to bring it out in the daytime...

I feel AF-S(hybrid AF) is worse/unreliable/inconsistent at achieving focus than AF-C (pure PDAF) when I do repeated focus on outdoor object and a nearer indoor object while standing by the window....tried on SEL35 and SEL1670z ..both at 35mm and wide open. SEL1670z performs better but not by much. Anyone have similar experience?

So now I am using AF-C in point focus mode which is more reliable.

Hopefully the next firmware update can sort out the AF-S issue

Sounds like a feature then an issue. Haha :). Any real life situation use case where its a problem?

I was trying A6000 at Sony Store and trying out the Phase Detection Auto Focus. Here's my observation.

When the object was originally in the frame and shutter is half press, the af works wells when the object is moving. But if the object is not originally in the frame and move into the frame after shutter half pressed, the camera totally ignore it.

That's pretty much how it's supposed to work isn't it?

I have no idea. I thought my original frame has no moving object and a moving object came into the frame and it should focus at it instead.

Depends on the situation, the AF system should be configurable. But I guess that would be too much in this price class even though it's just software.

i remembered it is configurable for how sensitive it is to jump onto the next moving object....but I think main purpose is for movie situations.
imagine you are shooting a video of your kid in a crowded place and someone walks pass in front of your kid and your focus jumps to the stranger and when the stranger walks off the screen, the focus jumps back to your kid.... quite disorientating I must say.

let me go dig into the menus again to confirm this configurable aspect.;)

Anyone got this already? Still waiting for my delivery prob early next week:)

Went to TK to see this. Not impressed. Not going to pay $100 over for this half casing. Walked away a happy man.
