A57 is looking good...

I have not found any shop selling body only, does anyone know ? Everyone i asked selling with kit lens. Wonder why Sony launched this way.

There is only the kit version in Singapore. It won't differ alot in price with or without kit lens. :)
It will be a fun and casual camera. Intend to get it for day in day out shoot. Cheers

It will even be good for things like F1 or any other event. :)

HI All,

Im a newbie here and would like to greet all of you "Hello".

I have just got my 1st DSLR camera (Sony SLT-A57K) few days ago, and it is still an alien to me.

I do not know much about apperture, shutter speed, how to take a picture with a blurish background, etc,

After reading a little more on the newbie thread, now i started to have some idea about these things.

I would like to express my thank you for all the threads contributed by you guys to a newbie and i am looking forward to learn more from you guys.

Thanks again.

there should be a free course that comes together with the camera. you can always register for it to learn more ;)

Hey guys! I read through the replies from this thread and realise that the A57 is indeed a decent cam with better noise performance as compared to the a33, a35 and a55. I even compared to the a65 and a77 and it was slightly better as well in terms of noise performance. However it is still a entry level cam. I was wondering if upgrading from an a55 to a57 for the purpose of having better noise performance cam is ideal or should just upgrade to the a65 or a77?:) Hope you guys can help out here.

If noise performance is your main criteria, sure. If details and resolution are your main criteria, no. If weather sealing is needed, a77. If you just need a bigger body than an a55, then the a57.

There is soooooooo much more to a camera than just ISO noise. Take everything as a whole.

Most gearheads get obsessed with pixel peeping ISO noise at 100%.

Photographers, on the other hand, look at the camera as a whole and how it can best help their needs.

You ever notice that medium format shooters are not obsessed about ISO? That professional medium format backs rarely even go above ISO 400? That should tell you a lot...

Yup true. Medium format user tend to stay on lower ISO. You are right saying about looking the cam as a whole. I have looked at all expect in terms of ergonomics. Yup the a57 has better noise performance then my current a55. Both are not weather sealing as compared to a77. But I guess I will stick to my current body first and upgrade my lens set. See how it goes depending on my budget. Thanks for the feedback!;)

Mainly, consider the size difference.... the a57 is the size of the a65...

Though personally, if I did not have the a580, I would snatch up an a57.

You feel the A57 is far more superior to your a580. In terms of? I only know that one utilises OVF while the other uses EVF. Hehes! You are a Sony user for quite some time aren't you?:)

The 12 fps and frame buffer for one ! ...EVF takes time to get use to but once you're there, you'll never look back !

Bingo. That's exactly why. I would use the focus peaking for panning during F1...

Plus, the AF on the A57 is very good - the A580 was already great, the A57 is even better.

I did some simple photo shoots at IMM Sony and found that the A57 has much better noise control than the A77 from ISO3200 onwards...

I too compared the noise performance of the a57, a65 & a77. Indeed the a57 standout. It still shows slight detail at higher ISO but not for the other two.;)

Yes, that is a given. The A77 sensor is not designed as a high ISO camera, it's meant to give max resolution.

Hi. Bought my A57 recently. To me, the EVF and the lcd are much better that those in the A55, which I also have one.

But now I seems to be having some problem with the A57: When I zoom in my Sony18250 lens, sometimes the F number on the camera display will show "-" instead of a number. I have to zoom out a bit to get the camera to obtain the F number and display it correctly. Tried the kit lens 1855, the same problem will occur too.

Wonder any fellow shooter here encounter similar experience before, and is there any solution for that? Or is it just due to the camera being a faulty one?

Thanks in advance.

Read the newbie stickies.

Thanks Rashkae :)

Might be either the cam body being faulty or the lens itself. You can check with SSC.;)

.

might be dirty lens contacts or the locking mechanism for the lens and mount might be loose.

try cleaning the contacts with a microfiber cloth. both on the lens and the mount
