A55 owner.. pls come in..

I happened to walk into a HN shop today and just wana check out the promo before the sitex tomorrow for a55.

The salesman says im lucky cos if i want i better take now as is the last set left.

I saw that the display set was not there but the rack and the price tag was there.

It just came into my mind that can this be the display set?

I thank him and walk out. I am wondering is there any security tag on the box to indicate that is brand new or is there anyway to check is the camera brand new and not tested or used before?

Thanks.

Might be... as long as the box isn't sealed with a sticker... cuz most of the time, for electronic products, it's sealed with a sticker with the manufacturer's logo/brand name on it.

as long as the sticker is cut or missing, you can be sure that it's not a "Brand New Set" as claimed.

what is the current price for a55 and bundle?

feel like getting the body only + sony 50mm f1.8? is this lens better than kit lens?

wondering if will it be better to purchase at sitex or slr,msc...

If you're comfortable not having a "zoom"...
I'd suggest getting it with a kit and get the 50mm as a purchase-with-purchase.

Take a look at the Sitex price, then call up MS Color and bargain. can maybe get same/lower price with less hassle and crowds.

cool thanks for the advise!

I have the same thought too. But the 50mm will make it really tight. Though it's a fantastic portrait photos focal length. Maybe the 35mm is more versatile. But the 35mm is a few time more ex than the 50mm which most likely part of the PWP deal from Sony. Personally I am hoping for a 35mm F1.8 PWP with deep discount ;p

get a 2nd hand 18-55 kit + 50mm prime in the B&N section. sure it wont be as much as compared to a new 35mm.

Want to ask,

What is this 3D-Panorama function? What is the difference with the normal Panorama picture? Got any example?

Folks,

Thanks for all the help...

Finally got my a55 kit and will get my 18-250 lens in HK...

Once again.. thanks for all the advices and helps.

Looking forward to my HK trip....

My a33 is really a joy to use. Very intuitive. But the bug bear is still the short battery life :(

I went to botanic gardens last week and for the first time, I saw more ALPHA cameras than other brands! Maybe many new users bought their A33/55 at sitex and went there to test!

The A33/55 is really bang for buck at this price point(with k-r too). I'm happy to see people doing their research instead of following their canikon friends blindly. Sony has done a good job with NEX and SLT this year imo. I can't be more excited for a77 next year!!! :bsmilie:

I planned to get A55 at Sitex but this Harvey Norman do not cater for the 18-250 lens, and refuse to entertain.

And I actually decided to go Jurong Point to get instead. Guess what! due to plain laziness and need to bring my kids home, I changed my mind to wait again, for the "dunno when coming A77"

What I had missed is the following offer,
A55V with 18-250, 50F1.8, 16Gb MS, tripod, bag (photo frame not sure) and can use visa.
All at S$1749, in my opinion, much better offer than MS Colour.

But sianz, missed the boat!! now can only squeeze balls.

Is there really a A77 which might eradicate some issue plaguing the A55?

saw the A55 review on CNET in the email... the short write-up was pretty much...erm... saying the A55 is kinda useless? and at the bottom was a link to buying the 60D ROFL...

clicked on the link and it went straight to a review showing not much sample images..
http://asia.cnet.com/reviews/digitalcameras/0,39005881,45290088p,00.htm

at the end was a poorly made video on the "continuous AF in Video Mode" that showed NOTHING clearly at all... really such a poor review.

digitalrev did a much more impressive review of the A33..

Sorry for the late reply... Cos just came back frm hk.

I got my a55 from parisilk kit lens with a spare batt n another pc of 8gb n plus a uv filter.

My exp? I guess I won't go back there anymore. Won't elaborate much as maybe is just me.

If I'm not going to hk soon, guess is worth getting the body and the 18-250 lens instead of the kit. The most int part is buying lens in hk. Thks to all the bros for their advices n tips. I went to digi@co in mong kok n got my 18-250 lens for hk$3400. As i ve prepared the amt before hand at the exchange rate of 5.9 tat means the lens only cost sgd576.27 !!!

As for the seal at the box, guess is all bullshit cos I saw it with my own eyes they can remove the seal without tearing it by using a hair dryer. He tell me tat if I wana sell it can use this method to seal back. Gosh.

As I ve no exp in checking lens, guess now can only hope tat mine is really brand new. Anyway it comes with 1 yr international warranty.

a new way of cheating again. zzz. looks like to be sure it's not tampered with, one has to ensure that the sticker is really stickied on before paying for it.

Hello all,
1st time dslr user and bought a55 last month. For an entry lvl noob a lot of intuitive and transparent features for the price vs other brands. not that hard to use. Compared canon and nikon entry lvls and bought a55 because the 10fps sound makes everyone at the sales counter turn their heads.

After 1 mth using my comments
The 10 fps gives good results esp when shooting kids.

Pic quality is more than reasonably sharp and colors crisp vs canon and nikon entry lvl and some mid range dslrs although can see noise at iso 3200. Canon and nikon less noise at same iso. i thought this was a better daytime camera.

light weight makes it easy to handle with kit lens.

Very clear video mode with quick AF and good mic, (for its tiny size).

Got a 50mm f1.8 lens. The difference is stunning for potrait shots. World of difference like sky and earth.

Twilight mode gives good results. initially tot sony better for daytime but this makes it a good nighttime dslr as well.

Battery life is too short

Mounted 18250 lens and immediately feel the weight distribution difference. Feather transform into brick. Ergomonics lost out in that part as middle and 4th fingers feel cramped. 18250 lens takes a bit longer to AF but is expected.

Package $1280 w kit lens 18-55mm, 2*8g sd cards, strap, screen protector, lowepro bag (the smallest one), cleaning kit, tripod (which looks cheapo enough to break using eye power)

Sony 50mm f/1.8 potrait lens $119. (under table transaction)

Sony 18250mm zoom lens $779, bought seperately so now need a bigger bag....any1 selling?

Overall quite satisfied for what i paid for a consumer lvl dslr.

Will post some pics when i am ready to be lined up against the firing squad.

One last thing. dun buy from sony shops and chain stores. more expensive. Go to the mom and pop shops for cheaper prices.

mom and pop shops don't necessarily mean cheaper. you might just walk out of the shop with lesser stuff and/or pay for things you didn't really need in the first place. these people might seem nicer but in reality it's best to do your research before purchasing.

not all mom and pop shops are run by honest people.

Bought my 18250 lens from SLT Revo @ $779. The small shops @ Funan also the same price
Sony Style and HN quoted $899. Asked for a seperate purchase of the same lens at HN and the best they could do was $799 since i bought the a55 from them.
But of course did my price research b4 going down.

to some who are budget conscience will obviously go for the cheapest deal.
to others who prefer good service would not mind paying more for the service they get.
to those who just have too much money, buying anywhere does not matter as long as they get what they want.
to a few of those ill-informed or poor researched fellows would come crying and complaining on their buys.

just too many to list...
at the end of the day, let individual decide what they want to be.
but most importantly enjoy your purchase and shooting great photos are more impt! :bsmilie:
