A55 availability status

On a separate note;

the 270 degree swirl and tilt screen is one of my attraction point, along side with NEX's (better than NEX I must say)

However I was a little disappointed thinking that i will take some self portrait on my trips but realised that the flip down will be blocked by the tripod!!!

What does everyone think?

Hi, do u heard of DIY,every thing is possible, only need to use a little more thinking than others.:D

I think that for decades, people have been shooting self-portraits with tripods without live view or tilting LCDs. So I don't think it's an issue.

Nice a hear a voice of reason once in a while :-)

Uh they will always be a way to camwhore no matter the camera.

That aside, hope the a55 will make appearance soon in shops.

Sony could have scored a full 100 marks for a 360 swivel screen but instead but instead chose to score only 70 marks for a tilt down screen. Very foolish of Sony.

As for the viewpoint that "people had been taking self portraits without live view,.. " I don't quite agree at all. It's like saying people have been driving cars without aircon long before, so its not an issue to buy a car NOW without aircon. You just can't compare things then and thing now like that. IMHO.

anyone with basic photographic knowledge will know that when u wanna take self portraits using tripods, u can simply pre focus...

the LCD is just 3", it will be too small for u to see clearly while u self portrait from a distance anyway, so prefocusing is still the best solution.

Will work very well with tabletop tripods:thumbsup:
I enjoyed group photos with my friends using the swivel screen plus gorilapod

I think that's just an excuse for your bad photos. You want the camera to compensate for your lack of basic skills.

If I wanted to take a self portrait on a tripod, I'll set the cam to manual focus and 10s timer ! (the LCD would be too small to be useful) ...think - tele lens

Otherwise, it will be held by an outstretched arm like a Pns Compact (TGI such a light SLT!)
...where the LCD makes more sense. ...think - WA lens.

Agree to all good bros .... tripod self portrait...pre-focus... shouldn't be a problem....

My opinion still stand that if you are going to have a swirl screen, side swirling is better design then bottom swirling on the camera. Why limit the design at all.

Probably sony doesnt want to cannibalise their sales of camcoders too much, esp the new vg10.

However to be honest, i still prefer the flip up/down screen of a3xx/5xx. It enables faster operation for flip up. The swivel screen needs extra steps for flipping up.

there is one advantage of sony's design though.

For girls who like to take handheld self portraits (and Ive seen this VERY OFTEN :bsmilie:), Sony's swivel design is better compared to Nikon/Canon's side swivel.

With a center bottom swivel, U can still look straight at the camera, while with the side swivel, if u stare at the LCD panel, ur pictures will come out with ur head or eyes abit slanted.

But this is just minor, i don think a center or side swivel will make much of a difference in normal usage

Me too here, i need SSS to compensate my lack of steady hands, and need HDR to compensate my lack of PP skills, also need the grid to assist composition, all the new features is great to have, it hrlps starters took better photos ;p

Bro, you sure you know what you talking about ? One thing is for sure, you CANNOT pre-focus when taking self portraits. What are you going to pre-focus on?

A swivel screen has nothing to do with photographic skills at all, it's not even a must have tool, it is just a convenient tool. Of course one can shoot even if there is no screen at all just like the film days. But since Sony wants to make a 360 swivel screen for convenience sake, they really should not have made the hinge at the bottom but at the side instead.

Do u know wat u r talking about???

There's so many photographers who had done self portraits for donkey years, all using pre focusing. So u are saying for the past few decades, all those people who took self portraits are using remotes and a swivel LCDs?

Teach u some basic photography lessons: pre focusing can be done using manual focusing, or it can be done by using autofocusing and focus on something which is at the same distance as the position you will be standing.

It can be done, and has been done for ages. Its time u learn about this basic skill called pre focusing :)

from word of mouth from some, due to security and sensitivity of GPS, it has to be checked and approved by authorities.
