A55 availability status

hmmm.. as fate has it
both aaron80 and me bought the a55 at the same time :bsmilie:
we got it at 1650 for body + 18-250 + standard freebies.
might be better to call them up, as sometimes the price do fluctuate.
will probably be picking up an additional 50 1.8 tonight
unfortunately they said 35 1.8 is not pwp :(
any advise?

:edit:
bro aaron80 did u buy the extra battery from them? or have any other lobang? :bsmilie:

one other general qn: what % your kept your dry cabinet at? left mine currently at 40.

P.S anyone interested to attend the course together? hahah

welcome bro! and enjoy your new cam... yeah get a prime either 50mm or 35mm f1.8 both are equally good lens

dry cabinet setting normally i put it 45% not too dry nor humid...

Haha ya bro I agree, this is fate.:bsmilie: I checked with them regarding the 35 F1.8 too and its not part of the PWP deal. Only a few lenses are part of PWP, I remember there were 2 macro lenses in PWP too. The 50 F1.8 is pretty good and sharp, you should get it!

I asked them about extra battery too but they are out of stocks for both original and 3rd party battery. Think original is $50+, third party one is $30+. I dun have dry cabinet now, sold off mine when I quit photography a few years ago. Nw I just keep my camera in a drybox. Actually you dun need to store your camera/lenses in dry cabinet if you use them often.

What is this course you mentioned? You mean we buy camera got free course to attend?

thx bro albertri! :bsmilie:

yeah its fate! lol
will probably get the 50 F1.8 tonight, cant do without a prime
tho i would prefer 35 F1.8... with a price diff of $201... damn tempting..
should i go for it instead? lol

battery wise, i am thinking of getting from ebay currently.
unless there are other lobangs, else its approximately S$ 20.74 for each battery (incl delivery).

dry cabinet is used to keep the a55 + 2 lens, my old lumix and dad's cam+video cam
so yeah its pretty much filled , share share use its worth it

yeah, these few days check for issues if not, register warrenty online.
after registering there will be a complimentary fundemental SDW course given.
which will teach the basics and functions of the camera we have bought.
might be good if u dun like to read the manual like me :bsmilie:

Yeah bro I think 35mm is more useful specially indoors shot not too wide nor to narrow. 50mm can use indoor also but you need to step a bit far when you want to take some group photos :)

It depends on your shooting style for your prime lens, you want more versatility I think 35 is much better choice over 50mm but if you want more isolation and bokeh i think 50 would be good protrait lens. :)

enjoy enjoy!

exactly... human are greedy and hard to satisfy :bsmilie:

on one side i wanted the 35mm for wider shots
the other side wanted the 50mm for bokeh effect

but i am seriously considering 35mm as one bro said:
"take the 35mm since we can only crop inwards but not outwards"

Wah why didnt get the 50 1.8 at the same time as your camera at pwp price?

cause still struggling between 50 F1.8 and 35 F1.8 :bsmilie:
no money to get both!
only 50 F1.8 got pwp
35 F1.8 no pwp

but i am thinking of getting 35 more!
someone help me make a decision! :dunno:

Bro if you are just starting out this hobby, then I think u get the 50 F1.8 1st since its cheaper. Try to get a feel of its focal length and whether u like it or not. Then if you feel that u need something wider like the 35mm, you can always get it later. If you feel that the 50 F1.8 suffices, then u will have save $200+.

makes sense... no point rushing into 35mm such there's no discount either.
50mm with pwp is indeed cheaper until i grow out of it.

alright then. thx for the tip bro aaron80!

P.S how's the decision on the course thing?

No prob bro! I am game for the course, we can go together!:)

got my 50 F1.8 @ pwp price

great! gotta find a open date then lol

Congrats on getting the 50 F1.8 bro! I am sure u will like it. I tried it last night and its super sharp at F2.2 to F2.5. Think that should be the sweet spot. We arrange a date go together.

tried the 50 F1.8 for 2 days now, its really good at such a price.
but personally felt that it is not wide enough for some landscape shots.
as most of the time i feel shy shooting up close :sweatsm:

today cam isnt with me, dad took it out for some fun.
hope he doesnt get poisoned! :bsmilie:

secondly i think i'm terrible at controlling the pop up flash
its definately more powerful than my old cam.
and shooting indoor at night, even with -3 seems to be quite over-exposed using the 50 F1.8 (too close?)
also tried fill flash, slow sync, didnt work like expected.
was trying on A mode, F2, ISO 800, maybe i should lower iso?
any bros with tips?

:edit:
dry cabinet seems weird, saw the RH other day with max on is at 40%
ytd night saw it at 26%, i turn the dial from max to 12o'clock and now its at 30%.
not sure whether is it broken... hmmm, maybe not? but seems very dry in the box lol

if you using flash, try not to use too big aperture. Probably f2.8 or 3.5 is ok. Too big aperture with flash will cause overexposed pictures esp indoors. Outdoor as fill flash still ok.

I believe ur dry cab is those analogue type? Then u need to really use a few days to fine tune which position of the knob gives you the desired rh value.

bro ouverture:
gave up on the flash, took ISO to 3200, F3.5 and took the picture again.
seems abit dull so i pump up the EV +1.5 to bring out the target and turns out fine.

was trying to achieve bokeh effect at night (take close ups using the 50mm), that's y the low aperature, seems hard esp when i am a total noob with no flash skills :bsmilie:

would be great if there's someone to teach :)

bro AntzN:
its S$119, not to mention there's other lens available too i think a total of 5~6.
and 16-105 is one of them i think. think its a great deal for it :)

bro Ghostfit:
LOL, yeah he took it out again today.
think i'd see a a77 coming with new lens to play already
maybe got to change to a even bigger dry cabinet hahaha

I have not tried using the flash with my 50 f1.8 so far... if yous till find it a bit harsh try playing around the flash setting in your cam... I cant really teach you the detailed step by step as I have not tweak nor play around with my A33 flash setting but commonly in DSLR you could even decrease flash power or increase... Look into the menu (Fn) and see what A55/A33 offers for flash settings... worst cash try to diffuse your flash by putting a tissue on your flash.

Other solution but this will be expenssive is to get a hotshoe flash :) if you're indoor just bouch it off.. Saw one cheap China brand flash selling in Peninsula Plaza it's a big flash that can TTL with Sony only 150... but sadly it's a basic flash so no much control....

yeah been researching on this part currently, since most of the time on weekday i only have time at night ;(
and only weekend i have enough daylight to take pictures so gotta learn some survival skills :bsmilie:

currently no budget to get external flash but seems that F58AM is highly recommended by alot of ppl?

so might have to fall back on this thing i saw
http://www.focalprice.com/DI358W/Popup_Flash_Diffuser_for_Sony_White.html

do u think it would work?

:edit:
found a great website with a55 info!!
its topic on flash: http://www.imaging-resource.com/PRODS/AA55/AA55FLASH.HTM
its topic on exposure: http://www.imaging-resource.com/PRODS/AA55/AA55A5.HTM

Qn: do you guys use the UV filter more or the CPL filter more? thinking of getting one CPL filter since will be using it, any recommendation?
is this ok? http://cgi.ebay.com.sg/Hoya-62mm-Circular-Polarizer-Polarizing-Filter-CPL-2352-/380270276409?pt=UK_CamerasPhoto_CameraAccessories_CameraLensesFilters_JN&hash=item5889dfef39
or this one? http://cgi.ebay.com.sg/Kenko-62mm-62-mm-CPL-Circular-PL-filter-hoya-Marumi-/400107486505?pt=Lens_Accessories&hash=item5d2843bd29

Hmm..I also curious about this because I read from a thread that CPL filter helps eliminate reflection and flare?

That means if we use CPL, we can shoot through the windows of a bus or at the things inside a window display without incurring reflections in our pics? Is there any trade-off? Sorry if my question sounds noob coz I never use CPL before.:embrass:
