A500/550 Users .... Come in!!!

Welcome n happy shooting !
Yeah!! Trigger happy just now at Marina/Esplanade area for 4 hours...
Think have shot more than 1000++ shots (until hand a bit aching... still got 30% battery left..)
The A500 sure is a "endurance" equipment man!
Now the headache, how to go through and study all these shots???
Happy problem??

Yup, the A500 is an endurance machine, I was pleasantly shocked when I did like 700+ shots (all LV) plus viewing/showing the photos to wife/buddies, recently at Universal Studios, Sin ...went home and downloaded the lot from Cam to Computer and I still had 20% capacity. (Let me tell you, it gets better from there as the battery gets cycled)

I usually spend about an hr sorting out the photos, I'll do 3 quick pass with the usual viewing softwares.

...first pass, all OOF picts get dumped into the thrashbin.
...second pass, all badly composed, poorly exposed, eyesores, "dun look right" photo joins the OOF in the bin.
...Third pass, decide which are the outstanding photos to keep and show pple and which ones to hide from pple. (Should be easy as I usually have like less than a third of the original photos taken):bsmilie:

Hi,

More questions :)

1. What is the difference between a550 and a550L ?
2. Why is the price for A33 cheaper than A550 (sony.com.sg). Isn't A33 supposed to be better ?
3. In my previous camera, a canon ixus , it had something to take 10 snaps with a delay of 3 second each. There is nothing in this, but just 1 shot with 10 second delay or 2 second delay.
To take multiple shots, do I need this wireless trigger? Will it allow me to just press and it will take the snaps, so that I can include myself in my family pictures.
4. Which is a good place to know and find out more info/prices regarding most used accessories for the camera ?
5. Is it good to check accessories on ebay? or buy local ? local => where?

Thanks.

4. to include yourself in picture, can do it via auto smile shutter mode, no need to buy wireless remote unless you need it for other purpose

Hmm..

I will try and see if auto-smile mode can take multiple shots.
What if I smile, while my wife or my 6 year old son are not smiling?
I want option to take multiple shots so that out of 10, i can get at least 1 shot with my son right.
You know, kids. always playful, making faces etc.

How expensive is the wireless shutter ?

Please see my replies in orange.

Hi,

More questions :)

1. What is the difference between a550 and a550L ?

550L is the same as A550 just that it comes with the kit lens.

2. Why is the price for A33 cheaper than A550 (sony.com.sg). Isn't A33 supposed to be better ?

How do you define better?

If you look at the way Minolta/Sony labels their cam, you would noticed that the higher the number, the better the cam. The A550 has a higher usable ISO than the A700 but is priced cheaper than the A700, so is the A550 a better cam than the A700?

3. In my previous camera, a canon ixus , it had something to take 10 snaps with a delay of 3 second each. There is nothing in this, but just 1 shot with 10 second delay or 2 second delay.

You need an intervalometer to do that. Not all cams have that feature, esp the entry level ones. Just use a wireless trigger to save you the trouble. So far I see many people are ok with either the wireless trigger or the timer.

4. Which is a good place to know and find out more info/prices regarding most used accessories for the camera ?

Used accessories? Try google. You will see a lot of forums pop up.

5. Is it good to check accessories on ebay? or buy local ? local => where?

Depends. What are you buying? The seasoned Alpha users do have their local and overseas sources for equipment.

It seems to me that you focus on equipment more than photography itself. :nono:

Thanks.

1. What is the difference between a550 and a550L ? a550 - body. A550L - with kit lens
2. Why is the price for A33 cheaper than A550 (sony.com.sg). Isn't A33 supposed to be better ? From where you hear or read up the A33 is better?
3. In my previous camera, a canon ixus , it had something to take 10 snaps with a delay of 3 second each. There is nothing in this, but just 1 shot with 10 second delay or 2 second delay. Do you mean burst mode? Read up your manual. You should be able to find those info.

You do not need wireless trigger to take multiple shot. It works like a remote control to control your shutter.
4. Which is a good place to know and find out more info/prices regarding most used accessories for the camera ? You can check out the personal classified threads in clubsnap.

Hi Guys,

Thanks for the answers. Very informative.

Regarding this "It seems to me that you focus on equipment more than photography itself." .. the main reason why I took this camera and upgraded from a P&S is to take nice pictures of my son. The 5/7 fps is really helping a lot. I have no complaints on the photographic part. Just trying to work out a feature that I am missing.

There are times when I have to include myself in the shot, and just 1 shot in 10 second timer is not enough.
Example, me teaching basketball to my son, leaving the camera in the tripod. I wanted something to take multiple shots of such occasions. Just wanted to confirm if the wireless trigger is what I require.

I see, the wireless remote should be ok, otherwise you may wish to ask your wife to take the pictures of you and your son. In a way, you get to spend quality time with your wife and kid as well. ;)

how are you going to press the wireless trigger when you holding the basketball?

its either 2 sec timer with the a55/33 10fps/7fps auto+ mode, or take a video?
dunno if the smile detection works on the a55/33 fps mode, you can go sonystyle try and let us know, he he

simply love the grip of the a550.. a300 seems abit too small.. im glad i upgraded.

Last that I heard is that there is no more available stock for A550 already unless you are willing to pay close to RRP, you may still be able to get one at some shops. Limited stock for A500 still available at very good price.

liang court's audio house still got a550( at least still got display) but pricing is 1k and above.. why harvey norman so cheap?
