There is no bad camera. Each brand has its strength and weakness. Recommend you test the brands you are interested in and see which model just feels right in terms of function and ergonomics cause if you don't like it you won't use it.

Agree that there's no bad camera, but what many fail to see is that, for the same amount of money, some cameras are more capable than others

add on some advice for you. I myself own a A330 for a few days, tested my friend's Nikon D90. The feel is more solid and IQ looks better. But it's 2 x the price of a A330 + Kit lens.

Ask yourself how much you willing to fork out, i can tell you A330 IQ can't compare to a D90 especially in low light performance and of cause the feel. The LCD of a D90 is higher res and bigger than a A330 at 3". As of now, i think only A550 can match those specs, but in terms of noise, i am not sure as the A550 is not out yet.

The A550 is still relatively cheaper than a D90, if you are ok with Sony Alpha, you may wanna start with a A330 or A550, DO NOT buy already then you think u wanna buy Canon then you will lose alot more money if you already bought the lens.

I did alot of research on the price and specs of the lens, as i hope to acquire some lens, i realise the price of Sony lenses are relatively cheaper than the Canon and Nikon. Take into consideration Image stabilizer, is it important to you? Canon/Nikon differentiate their lens in to with or Without IS/VR, the one with IS/VR is like almost 2x the price of those without. But with Sony, you just get any crappy lens e.g. 10 to 20years old Minolta, you will get IS because Sony in build it into the body, but of cause maybe the new lenses are better, i not sure how true it is, i am still finding out what's the different between a Minolta Beercan 70-210 F4 at street price of $200+ to a Canon 80-200 F4 IS lens at $1.8k (Can any expert enlighten me on this?)

Some online tests have already shown that A500/550 high ISO performance is on-par with D90, if not better.

Sony is still the as they are the master for making sensor other big palyer also getting it from them........ so if Sony making their own the price will naturally cheaper........Remember Sony more function and reasonable price. Sometime we buy camera at high price is due to their old timer in market....actually price was already mark up 2 to 3 times of their actual market value.....

i just went to sony style shop today to try out the a230/a330. its really not bad! now i'm damm tempted. brought wifey to try them as well, just to make sure her hands are comfortable with the camera.

the shutter speed is fast and nice sharp colours.

next question is do i need a dry cabinet?

is there anything i need to do as the first time using this cam? i'm charging the batt now. switch on the dry cabinet. maintain at 55% - 40% RH?

I asked for free UV filter from salesman. what is it for anyway?? i didnt want to look stupid in front of salesman, so i just acted as if i know abt UV filter. Hahahaha......

i bought from Harvey Norman. I think i gotten a good deal; $849, FOC 2 x 8 GB card (1 is SD, 1 is Memory stick), UV filter, tripod, Sony case

10% discount for the Dry cabinet - $106

Add $92 for extended warranty

I will on leave quite often from now on... so i will go for "shooting" sprees

Congrats i advise you to go for the free sony workshop course... they will teach all the basic you need to know...And yes maintain between 45-50%

I do know that Sony has a couple of options for you
1) Pay $210 ( i think) for 2 yrs extended warranty and get a free 50mm lens
2) Pay $999 for twin kit lens .. think its 18-55 walkabt lens and 55-200mm for zooming
3) Pay $299 for a 70-300mm lens (usual price is $399)

i also beginner, but i bought my 5th lens today, so now total 5 lens liao :dunno:
My A330 only 2weeks+ old, hahaha my first lens is a 18-55 kit comes with the cam, then i extend the warranty to get a FREE 50f1.8 then my friend pass me 2 old minolta lens, 80-200mm and 28-80 macro. Then i got another 75-300 today.

But honestly, try out the grip for A330 to see if you like it first, i feel it's abit small. using it with a Heavy lens is totally uncomfortable, the hand griping seems like wanna cramp

That's why you support the LENS with your left hand if it's a heavy lens. You don't lift the body unless you're like some of the old birds here that hold an A900 + 70-200G just by the grip.
