A rangefinder wedding to share

Beautiful stuff! I love the look of it !

Nope, everything was shot on film, scanned by the lab and put online. There was photoshop in 1 image. the one with the tilt shift effect. the rest were SOOC, that's why i love film and wish clients would request for all film more often. :)

It is certainly refreshing and inspiring to see such great results from all-film wedding setup. Very well done!

Thanks for the kind words everyone. ZoomP, I am now living in San Francisco. How's the film scene here? Rapidly fading/dying. Just a few weeks ago, Fuji announced that they had stopped the production of 800z and will be ceasing the production of Neopan 1600 and a few other stock, so i think that's a pretty good indication as to where things are headed.

There are fewer and fewer labs, even here in the States and I have to ship my stuff out to LA (and I'm always worried fedex will lose my film), that do a good job with film and those labs that still exist are becoming more and more expensive as it becomes increasingly niche. It's pretty common to spend quite a bit more than a grand per wedding just on film, developing and scanning but no prints. I'm really wondering how long more I have with film unfortunately. :(

Yes indeed, the 800z had a great way of making the flash images look very natural too. Doesn't have that funky look of digital images which have been flashed. dont know how to explain it.

Goodbye 800Z :(

Yes indeed, it sure does handle tungsten lighting really well. I wish digital could do that nice balance between tungsten and daylight that i'm seeing in your pics.

Oh and I'm very envious of your 50 summilux asph btw. I've been wanting one but could never bring myself to put down the money for it.

Hey! Glad you are having a good time in SF!

The lab scan is pretty decent. At least they are not overly contrasty and they do not do all the auto-everything settings for you. NICE!

I really like the overall look and feel and the colours.

Sadly, not everyone appreciate film, especially customers...

But as a photographer, as you have put it... not seeing all the LEDs and information in that viewfinder really helps in composition and capturing the right moment.

Are you still shooting with the Contax 645 for weddings?

Hi Chiif, yes indeed, I wish clients would request for film more often. But unfortunately film drives the price of their package so much higher that it's hard for many of them unless they really really want it bad. I'm trying to figure out a different solution to lower the price for my clients, but I can't really seem to come up with a solution that makes a significant difference.

As for shooting with my 645, yes, I'm shooting it still, and quite a bit at John and Kellie's wedding but less overall. Just at a phase in my life where I am trying to minimize the equipment that i bring to a wedding. I'm down to 3 lenses, 21, 35 and 75 and 2 leicas and just focusing on finding the vision at the shoot rather than the gear. I'm really loving that setup. Small light simple. I find too many cameras puts paralyzes my decision making process.

Hey Chiif congrats on your new space too. Next time i'm in SG, I'll be back in August to shoot a wedding, I'll certainly drop by your shop and check out your stuff. Am currently using a voigtlander 35 1.4 as an everyday lens.

Beautiful Wedding Shots .. if I am the client .. will give you a big tip

Thanks guys. Am messing around with a rented M9, just for the fun of it. Will post some pics in the next few weeks to give a comparison with film. So far, the black and white have been beautiful SOOC out of camera, but the color still a little hard to match film.

Did they decide to pull the plug on 800z again?

Because after announcing that they would discontinue it, due to the reaction from alot of people, fuji decided not to discontinue it

http://www.apug.org/forums/forum172/71677-fuji-pro-800-z-not-dead.html

But it's only for 135mm film though.... so sad.... what a stunning film...

Well there's still 400H to fall back on. Did you shoot 800z even for the outdoor shots?

From the shots, it looks like there would have been enough light to shoot with 400h graded at 200?

Seems like BH photo has 800z 120 film back in stock. I think I'm going to order 50 packs.

How can fuji discontinue 800z???!!!! Do they not see how awesome the colors are???

I read that neopan 1600 is also discontinued. Really sad day for film... neopan 1600 is like the most awesome b&w film. What ever will I do without it

Very very nice photos... I'm also considering shooting my own pre-wedding in film, but the film choices here in Singapore are a little limiting for nice natural colours... :(

Flinchy, I used a mix of 400 and 800. Most of it just had to do with what i had in the camera at that time as the weather was jumping back and forth between raining and sun every 30 minutes or so. And yes, they still have 800Z in 135, but unfortunately, from inside sources, even that film's days are numbered so I've essentially written off 800z because it's pointless for me to build a workflow on a particular film then have it replaced within a year or two.

Enivre, you can order you film from B&H. When I was in Singapore, I used to do that for film I couldn't get. Shipping of course costs an arm and a leg, so I would normally order like 500-800 rolls of various film stock at a time to make it worthwhile. But i think my bigger problem in Singapore was just finding somewhere that could do a good job of developing and scanning.

Hey guys, just wanted to share about this really great product for my Leica M cameras. I've recently started using a Black Rapid RS7 strap, and I just love it because it allows me to have my MPs discreetly at my side, and once I want to shoot, I just pull it up real quick to me eye, shoot and let it drop. Check out http://www.blackrapid.com

Just giving out shout out for this company because I love their product and they have amazing customer service which works so well for my MP. Oh and the way I like to attached my cameras is instead of using the screw in attachment to my baseplate, I simply use the camera strap circular clip and attached the carabina on the Black Rapid strap. Hope you guys find it useful.

Hey all my rangefinder friends, just wanted to let you know I've been shooting a Leica M9 at the last 2 weddings, and I've shared my thoughts on the camera as a tool for wedding photography on my blog at www.39eastvision.com

Please feel free to comment with your thoughts. I'm interested to hear people's take on the camera.

i share many common views of m9 with yours, i waited years for m9 to arrive, skippd the m8 and in summary, m9 meets most of my expectations as a seasoned film M shooter.

What I hate about m9? whitebalance is probably the only/single major 'headache' for me. I can live with many other minor 'flaws' like the pathetic lcd and seemingly inaccurate brightline framing. But I never had lcd on my film Ms and I trust my eye's more than the bright lines. I shoot m9 like I did on my film m so I don't have a big battery issues though I got myself a backup battery 'just' for rainy days.

regarding the suspicious coded lenses, I've the similar suspicison though it's already related to the whitebalance woes I mentioned above. For to gurus, am I doing right if I manually set the correct lens reference? is there's an alternative ref that gives better color to the 'right' one? I'm have the 35mm 'cron pre-asph and the 50mm f/2 built in hood. pls advise

Snits, I am glad I am not the only one with the suspicion that the coded lenses have something to do with color calibration as well.

especially for indoor shots, I always have a handy white paper to set my WB, works fine but not an elegant way
