A rangefinder wedding to share

hi CKuang,

you mentioned that some of your lenses can't focus properly on the M9 and has to be calibrated. Does that mean you have to calibrate your MP as well since these lenses were working fine on the MP?

Hi Yapper, as far as my conversation with Leica NJ went was this. They said for me to ship in the M9 along with all my lenses. Like you, I was concerned that MP would not work well after that with the calibrated lenses. Leica NJ told me that the M9 was just to check that the body was in calibration, but most of the time, it was the lenses which were off calibration. They sent the M9 body back within 14 days. The lenses needed a lot more work to get to calibration, and cost me a bomb as some parts had to be swapped out, but supposedly my focus would be more accurate with my MP after calibration.

if it's not then I have to send my MP in, but apparently all my lenses are off and not the M9, but film was just more tolerant to there variance and maybe that's why i have never noticed it before. Also, when it comes to film, we're probably a lot more forgiving if it's not tack sharp because we'll say, oh it's the scanner, I made a mistake.....No such thing with digital with it's instant feedback. Also, I knew for awhile that my 50 summilux was already front focusing a little even on my film body but it was tolerable for me. I'm now really looking forward to the sharpness put out by the calibrated lens on my MP. My 90 AA is now scary sharp on the M9.

Hope I answered your question.

nice series =) love the warm lights :)

hi, just wanna let you know i really really really really love this series. some of ur shots and the results are simply, with no better word to use, phenomenal.:thumbsup::thumbsup:

thanks so much guys. Will be posting some weddings i shot with an M9 soon, although it looks like I'm liking the film gear more.

I'm down to 3 lenses, 21, 35 and 75 and 2 leicas and just focusing on finding the vision at the shoot rather than the gear. I'm really loving that setup. Small light simple. I find too many cameras puts paralyzes my decision making process.

CK,
If you have time to share, I'd be interested to hear why you chose not to have a 50 in your line up. Is it because the 50 range is too close to the 35/75?

TIA.

kuang-san.

u have been in the industry for a long time, and ur eye for detail has always been special.

great work!!! ;);););)

Hey guys, just to update you on the progress of shooting rangefinders, I've been loving my M9 for ....black and white. Would you believe it? The black and white jpegs SOOC look really really good. Color, I'm still tweaking and trying to sort that one out. At the same time, I've also been pretty busy and shooting tons of film. There's one wedding coming up on my blog soon with really nice B&W out of the M9.

Sorry, just to answer the question as to why I dont have a 50 in my lineup, actually I do. I just don't use it much because it's too close to the 35 and 75mm. But that being said, I go in phases. Recently, I've been shooting my 50 summilux pre asph quite a bit because it came back from Leica perfectly calibrated and is just sharp and beautiful. My 35mm had to go to leica for it's turn to get calibrated. The last few months, I've been a little haywire in my lens selection because all my lenses had to go back to Leica for calibration because the focusing was off with the M9.

But in case anyone is feeling insecure about older lenses. Don't. I recently purchased a summitar collapsible and it focuses perfectly on the M9. and that's the oldest lens I have. really strange.
