This works for me. Just as I wanted to get a better DSLR for spot metering
Never thought this was possible, but there are finally upgrades for my 400D! Goes to show how Canon limits the DIGIC processor for cheaper models.
I have tested Spot metering and ISO 16, as well as ISO 3200. All seem to function as expected (the shutter speed increases rapidly as i move the center point from a dark background to a bright light source). EXIF data on the RAW files seem to reflect the proper ISO as well.
For those who cannot download the autoexec.bin from that depositfiles site, here's probably the best site to download from: http://code.google.com/p/400d/downloads/list
This site is updated by the Vietnamese guy who made this custom firmware. Please note for those who did not manage to get the upgrade to work, please use the autoexec.bin from this site and try again.

i'll be waiting for 5D2 hack to boost its ISO up to 51,200 & 102,400. 
yup.. i wonder y is this function removed in the hack
yeah im so hoping for a 450D hack too! not only iso 3200 , the iso 16,32 and 64 would be cool to use too!

hey what's happening here. I was able to upgrade my 400D last night and now it's gone. Any ideas what happened? Do I need to format my CF card everytime?

I see. I formatted the CF card using my camera. I did steps 5-7 again and it works again. Thanks!

managed to get the hack working with my 8GB Sandisk CF card (FAT32) using HxD last nite, but didn't manage to get the hack to work with my Kingston 4GB CF card (FAT32) just now, even tho i did exactly the same thing on HxD. wonder what went wrong.............

Let me just get this clear, if you want to use the hack, you need to have the autoexec.bin file in the CF card. Without it, hack won't run?
So if I accidentally formatted my CF card, I'd need to copy again the hack files to the CF?
Isn't that troublesome? Can't we set this as a permanent hack?

Seriously how often will u "accidentally" format your card if you are not using your card reader.
If only they have a hack to record HD video like 500d....

i think it's still better to keep the hack "temporary" instead of permanently stored in the firmware. if there's a bug, the camera might just become an expensive black paperweight. formatting a card will destroy the autoexec.bin and the custom firmware won't load. it takes time to get used to, but i guess you will have to "delete all" instead of formatting.
