how come? .. they make really good notebooks .. ask anyone ... they'll agree.. least problematic in terms of service / reliability / stability ... especially support when overseas :thumbsup:

Definitely more ex than SG and a tad backward.
And i'm not kidding about the support part for overseas... friend had some problem with her hdd whilst in perth .. guess what.. they actually came to collect the laptop from her home. :thumbsup: ...and they delivered back to her residence... this is what i call support.

Then use the uni's computers loh :dunno: ... cos no laptop is that powerful .. even if have its also beyond your budget.
The things you mentioned you actually need at least - 2GB of RAM ...Xeon line of CPUs to perform "up to expectations" ...
core2duo 1.83, 2gb ram, nvidia7900 256ram, 80gb hdd, power enough?
... get a desktop. ship it over.
