I am a user of 3 Sigma EX lenses from 17mm to 200mm. They are really sharp. I've done loads of weddings here in the UK and all the pictures are razor sharp and the colours are great too. I have also done enlargements of up to A1 size! No complaints about them.

However, I've heard from a photographer here in the UK who uses Sigma EX lenses with his 10D, that the Sigma lenses keeps breaking down. Aparrently, Sigma EX lenses are fantastic, but they are not really built for high work load if you are a professional photographer.

To add to it, I'm a lil worried about compatibility of Sigma lenses to the new 7D. I'm not sure of the lenses need to be 'rechipped' to be compatible to the Dynax 7. Sigma lenses seems to have compatibility problems with Canon cameras. Not sure if they have been fully rectified yet.

I really hope that I can easily switch to the 7D... when I get enough money that is! hahaha!

Matt

I've heard cases of HSM in Sigma lenses breaking down. Replacing the HSM motor cost quite a bit.

Well, Sigma lenses for Minolta mount are body driven. There's nothing for it to break unless you smash it.

Cheers!

So far KM has kept telling the whole world that the KM lenses are constructed in such a way that they will benefit the AS. Since 3rd Party lenses are also constructed in near similar fashion, would they also benefit right ?

Can anyone of your shed some light on this?

I think should be that the lenses collection that one have benefits from AS because all the lenses will be AS stabilised if D7D is used.

Since AS is based on the movement of the body, there's no relation to the lense in use. And so, all KM or 3rd party lenses benefit from the use of AS. Some folks down at dpreview has tested some 3rd party lenses on the D7D and there seem to be no issues about them.

Cheers!

You know, I guess i'll just wait till the camera is released to make any conclusions... this thing will go on and on till the camera's released.

The lens prices are comparable... but for the more exotic variety, the Minoltas are more costly and that may just be a numbers issue...

UY79, so... the below lens roughly how much?

AF 17-35mm f/3.5 (G)
AF 28-70mm f/2.8 (G)
Sigma EX APO RF 50-500mm f/4-6.3 (seem like super... wonder how the lens quality)
AF 100mm f/2.8 Macro (D)

The 17-35mm G lens was in excess of S$3K 1 year back when I asked CP... now it's just below S$3K - round about S$2.7K I think.... the Sigma was quoted to me at >S$1000 if I dun remember wrongly. Superb lens although it is a 10x zoom. But it's a monster. Can whack robber tho'.... :D

BTW, anyone know how much a Tamron 90mm macro cost?
