7D or 5D Mark III?

I own a 1DX and I still shoot like a n00b. As long as it meets your needs and you are happy, so be it ;)

Bro I think you should start a new thread on "why a noob should or shouldn't buy a 1DX" and u'll be surprised by the response :)

1DX, noob or not noob, money no object just hoot lor. So long as one doesn't mind the heft that is.

I agree... that's how I read the TS's opening post also.

Perhaps a strategy of buying the 5D3 first knowing that it won't be updated for a least 3 years is preferable to buying the 7D first as it is likely to be replaced by the 7D2 in a year or less.

Makes sense. Perhaps I was being a little cautious in advising TS. Afterall it's not my money. Hahaha.

most logical suggestion ;)

Are you serious? ;-) I would buy the newer model first, 5D3.

Ageha that's what has been suggested. Anyways it's NOT our money to spend. It's up to TS how he/she wants to spend the money. Most have already given their reasons why TS should go with the 5D3. I am being cautious when I recommend 7D. Firstly a 2nd hand 7D can be had for a low price and with the updated firmware it has a few good years left in it. The leftover money can be used to invest in more L glass, like perhaps a 35mm. But again it's TS's call.

Any reason why the 6D isn't being considered? 4.5fps is more than adequate for bursting IMO. Add to that the -3EV autofocusing center point (which betters the 5DIII) and the silent shutter like the 5DIII.

The 5D3 doesn't go down to -3EV? o_O

I might be wrong about this point. I remember reading somewhere 5D has less. But not sure which version. Maybe it's arbitrary to assume it's the 5DIII.

I thought the 5D3's AF is at least as sensitive as the D800/E's AF and the latter one goes down to -3EV.

MechaEd bro is right. 5D3 is less. 6D is the only Canon DSLR right now that claim to be able to focus in EV -3 using a lens f/2.8 or wider. The 5D3 and 1DX which shares the same system is able to focus in EV -2 using a lens f/2.8 or wider. The 1D4 is able to focus in EV -1 using a lens f/2.8 or wider. This information is published in CPN.

I wld say 7D if u doing sports/nature shooting
5D if u doing potrait/landscape/cityscape/night

7D from BnS if $ is concern + if u doing sports/nature shooting
5Dmk2 from BnS if $ is concern + u doing potrait/landscape/cityscape/night
5Dmk3 if $ is not a concern + u doing potrait/landscape/cityscape/night

why no one show some love for 5Dmk2?
P.S new to this photography scene

There is no doubt that the 5Dmk2 is a fine camera. Many excellent photos were taken by it and continue to be taken by it. There was lot's of love shown to it during its day but this is a gadget forum and new toys have appeared on the scene. Although the 5D2 is still very much respected, attention has shifted mainly to the 5D3 and 6D.

sorry to dig this up.

if 7D is good for taking sports, does that means its good for taking toddler running around? i know its overkill but was just wondering.... TIA for any comments.

Frankly speaking, I don't think it's overkill....Toddlers dashing from point to point is actually quite fast. You can probably ask those first timer parents with attempts to capture the moments of their baby first 1 year.

How about consider 6D? i own a 5dm3 and i was amaze by the iso. if you have limited budget, you can consider 6D. FF and able to capture images under low light situation. would suggest go for FF instead of cropped sensor. since you already have 550D. 100% view on LCD too (what u see is what you get). ;)

thanks. i guess what i like to know is 5d3 has the ease of taking quick/fast shots as little kids tends to run around very fast
