No lah... I only act blur lah.

I of course understand what you mean. Simply, if one has 佛性 and 佛心, and opens up one's eye to look at the world, one can learn to understand 悟, without needing to read too much.

I also understand what scanner means. scanner advocates reading scripture 念佛 and recitation 咏经 so that one may accumulate knowledge. And this process accumulate merits 修善业. This is of course, widely practised by 出家人 and many 在家居士.

One has to realise that as human, we are all markedly different.
I believe everyone accumulates merits and acquires positive karma (for that matter, negative karma too) in very different ways.

I am one who is somewhere in between Tupi Guy yourself and my good friend scanner. I believe in reading. However I am lazy and I don't have a good brain with good memory. Thus though I read, I can't retain too much, and my understanding is not high.
But whatever little I read, I gain some insight and pointers to direct me towards a more correct direction for me to practise. I believe in instrospection 自观自觉 to meditate on the meanings.
Thus I cannot say 'don't need to read' because I have realised that reading has propelled me further in my search. I would certainly encourage newbies to read.

On the other hand, my laziness and poor aptitude in grasping complex ideas have made me a poor candidate for scriptures of deep meaning. And I tend to give myself excuses that - ok, I hope with whatever little 佛性 I can lead my life in the right way to accumulate positive merits, reduce my negative karma, and one day attain Nirvana.

Maybe in this manner, you all can jokingly label me as walking the Middle Path 走中道.
;) then me is many 道 i learning everyday from all. :bsmilie::sweat:

it's not about 佛性 or 佛心. It about 人心.

Brother Lim, in today's world, 末法时期, there are far too many obstacles to gain enlightenment.

One possible way is to 代业往生 to pure land aka 西方极乐世界. From there, it is much easier to gain enlightenment.;)

Btw, sorry for being curious, actually how does this " sacred tree " looks like ? Any picture to show or any possibilities to see the real tree ?

Glad to know that ClubSnap is being blessed by many live buddhas.

When I was a young boy in my Primary school. There used to be two Bodhi trees. Big with lots of leaves. The leaves are about palm size and heart shaped. The tree trunk is thick all around.
Hmmm... I am not very good in describing in Botany terms.
I am not sure if still there or not.
But last night as I was driving, I kept thinking about the trees...

Brother scanner, that is very true.
I personally find myself focussing more on the small little things in life - children, family, friends, my customers etc. etc. ... because (maybe I am not thinking too much in terms of a higher level picture, maybe I am self-deprecating in that sense) I believe that, as a simple human being, my duty is to create good karma with all sentient beings around me.

Yes, yes. I am humbled. :)

For the sake of the community the thread title should
have an English translation. For those who cannot
read Chinese, they can't benefit from this educational
thread.

Here is something we can ponder:

We are humbled when we know the five purposes of our lives.

1. The purpose to live for.

2. The people to live with.

3. The principles to live by.

4. A profession to live out.

5. The power to live on.

Do you think there is a place on earth where you can
find all five of the above benefits in one place?

Does my level of involement in the Clubsnap
community demonstrate that I love and am
committed to this very unique family of
passionate photographers? ;)

Well, certainly yes - it would be great to have it bilingually.
But in practical terms, perhaps it is a little difficult to do a complete translation.
When we type, our thoughts are spontaneously injected into our words.
The nuances, the mood, and the train of reasoning are totally dependent on our state of mind and the sate of our emotion, at that point in time
If you noticed, many of the contributing CS-ers in this thread do type in both Chinese and the English equivalent as far as they could.

forward, your level of involvement in CS is un-questionable.
You have raised many a thought-provoking threads that have seen profound and penetrating replies and discussions.
I respect you for displaying this passion for CS.
And would love to see more of your postings.

Indeed, its not easy to cultivate oneself in this world to gain enlightenment, brother Lim. 一切隨緣...

Sorry for those who can't really read Chinese. As what brotheer Lim had mentioned, it will be difficult to do a complete translation as I am still not well verse and good enough for such an important task.
把经义讲错了,误导了听众/mislead public due to wrong translation of sutra and Buddha teaching is a serious crime.

Haha... you are too modest, my friend.
Not to the extent of being a serious crime.
无心的错,甭须太在意。

Dear All,

As much as I hate to break up the discussions, this forum is not an appropriate place to discuss about religion. Please note that section 3.1 of the ToS disallows such discussion as well.
