you should start a Flash-specific thread to ask about 580 EX functions, or general flash techniques at http://www.clubsnap.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=8

To part, here is a general tip: look at the surrounding walls and ceiling, notice their profile and shape, and observe how the lighting on your subject changes as you swivel the flash at different angles. Take plenty of experimental pics to realise the angle of bounce.

yeap! i'll do that. thanks for the tip!

After fiddling a while with the 60D at the shop, I think it is quite a capable camera, and I foresee that the swivel LCD screen can be a quite handy. While the body is made of plastic, the feel gives you a solid touch, and it feels much tougher and comfortable than a XXXD series camera.

I think it is time for me to retire my ancient workhorse and get the 60D. 7D is still beyond my budget, especially as I only shoot for fun. Maybe wait for year end bonus time :)

wonder if the built in wireless can control nissin di866?

hmm, thank god it's not priced too near to 7D... if not it will really make my 7D purchase not justified!

No worries, the 60D is no where close to the 7D, the latter sitting between D50 and 5D Mk2. The D60 is positioned as something new to the advanced entry level (xxxD-series), evidenced by the lack in control (hv a look at the controls on the back), smaller plastic body (instead of magnesium alloy), it also does not come with the 19 point AF as the 7D but uses the older 9 point AF we already know from the xxd and xxxD series, it is slower than the xxD series and eats now SD cards, which even more indicates its new position in the Canon dslr family. The tilt screen caters the happy family tips rather than the semi-prof photographer.

So, who want to upgrade, better goes for 7D or full-frame.

The swivel LCD is good and brilliant idea,
you know, sometimes we put our nose on it and the LCD gets oily :bsmilie:

I'm recharging the battery now,
after that try shoot the high ISO performance

It's just the ON/OFF switch, I feel uncomfortable with,
a bit hard not like 7D

haha yeah the on off switch is quite difficult. sometimes i try to switch it on/off and i wonder if its stuck or something. well, still new so i guess it might get better over time..

loving its performance so far! together with my 580 flash, though i still got plenty to learn about it..

After discover the menu inside 60D,
I think 60D will be 7D killer

Guess, 7D video user will move to 60D soon :bsmilie:

Can some 60D users share on the overheating issues face by the 7D? Example, Noise tends to surface after few hours of shooting at high ISO....

Thank you

btw, is the grip bigger than 550D ?? i hope i dont need the extra battery grip for this..

Size-wise, it's pretty similar to the 10D and 30D....as a matter of fact, having all three cameras side-by-side, I can't say that I'll miss the Mag-Alloy body. The plastics on the 60D feel pretty good too.

It's interesting the way prices are falling.

The 10D cost me about $2499 back in 2003...the 30D (which I bought cheap cause it was superceeded by the 40D and 50D) cost me $999 and now the 60D costs about $1400. Even the 7D in today's terms cost less than my 10D did back in '03. DANG!

BTW, wireless flash triggering works on the 550EX as well but alas, there's no FP/High-speed sync for that (at least I haven't figured that one out).

I bought the body, grip and a spare 3rd party battery for a total of $1703 @ CP which includes GST.

Yes. I think I got the last piece from CP-P though...you might wanna call them up to check if they've still got stock ;)

BTW, I absolutely LOVE the battery charge status that the 60D displays. I might be "suaku" but that's something that was missing from the 10D, 30D, 1Ds and 1D.

Hi there,

I am new to this forum. Previously using Canon S2IS for last 5 years. have not used DSLR before, but have always wanted to upgrade.

Now interested to get a Canon EOS 60D as the upgrade, timing just nice too. ;)

I have some questions:

anyone knows what's the latest selling price at AP/CP/John etc? I read that the lowest in Sept was $1400+... I am on a budget constraint.

As I do not own any lens, I also need some LENS advice:
- I am deciding between 18-55mm OR 18-135MM but i am afraid that the latter will be very bulky. Is it necessary to get 135mm telephoto lens? or should i heven consider the 18-200mm? :dunno:

- I have a friend (owns Nikon DSLR) who suggest buying a Canon Body itself plus a Sigma or Tamron as its cheaper combi- any views?

- He also suggest getting a fixed lens eg. 85mm F/1.4 + a zoom wide angle lens of 24-70mm? Is this a good suggestion?

I will be using my DSLR mainly for overseas travel, family gatherings and trips (eg. zoo, out-door outings, i like to take animal, flowers, panaromic views and potrait shots).

Currently my S2IS has 12X Zoom (probably equiv to 432MM zoom) - but often it cannot produce the effects I desire...
