i think the price drop is a good marketing strategy. It puts a wedge to competitors launching similar products. And low price= more sales of FF cam = and more FF users use more L lenses = more sales of L lenses (more margin i supposed). from now on will buy used or overseas any canon products. Because history will repeat itself:angry:

Canon may offer retailers credit (preferable) or refunds off any unsold sets the retailer still holds, adjusted down to reflect the new pricing. I doubt the retailers would be asked to "svck it up and live with it". If like that, who wants to be their resellers?

Who says there is a 5DMkIII? I think this downward revision of pricing has nothing to do with 5DMkIII. Anyway, 5DMkII is good enough for most people. So if FF is what you are looking for. Then this is a good time to buy. Deals like these sometimes only happen once. Nobody knows for now if these pricing are going to sustain. So just do it.

If there really is a 5DMkIII round the corner, Canon is releasing cameras like coconuts falling off trees. I will seriously think twice about upgrading. I mean if a new camera body comes out with every update instead of major upgrade, face lift, technological advances, new building material, etc. Then what is the point of changing to a newer model?

they cut prices now => more will jump but they suffer lesser profit per cam

for all we know MKIII is probably in the labs now
iirc canon is not pro active in releasing new stuff....
when Nikon comes out with a new FF,

how long canon milk us will depends on how hard the competitors hit back
previously oni nikon was a worthy competitor... now sony wanna chap ji ka (step in one leg)
so we wont know when the next MKIII will come.
MKII is already 1.5 yrs old... if it comes out at the end of the year... i wont be surprise :lovegrin:

Haha so much speculation on the fate of 5D2...I'll say that if you need it, then just buy it. This price is very attractive. Don't think the 5D3 is going to be out anytime soon. I'm pretty sure with that.

I wonder if 7D has a price drop like 5d2 which means there's a 7D mk2 coming out?? I think it's a marketing tactic since it's about 700 price dropped. If every price dropped = new cam coming out then I think those 1ds mark3 hunters will grab it like 5d mark2. These are just my thoughts.
