5Dmk2 $3.3k with GST

I brought my 5Dmk2 a year ago and have been enjoying great picture with this camera. So there is really no heart pain when the price drop as I have used my camera in many countries taking great picture. This should be the right time to buy if you are eyeing on FF camera that produce great photo.

Did anyone check with Canon to see if this is a normal price drop or just a limited time promotion?

Canon Singapore normally will not lead in lowing their camera price, they will only follow Japan/USA/Hong Kong.

So, anyone find out why Canon Singapore made such a bold move in slashing 5D Mk II price here? Even if there is a new replacement model coming (e.g. 5D MK III), Canon will usually cut price on the old model only after they have announce the new one.

Except this time they drop it so much that it's cheaper than US price, which still remains at S$3500 before tax.

Strange happening... Someone typo at Canon leading to unintended price drop? Just thinking out loud..

Maybe their CEO will apologize and increase the price again (seems a lot of mistake and apologize are coming from Japan these days) :dunno:.

I think this is in anticipation of something significant from the competition. Either Nikon or Sony, more likely the latter if digital video is the focal feature of interest here.

When you bring the price ceiling down after conquering the market, it makes it very much more difficult for the competition to enter the market with any significant bang. And makes it even more difficult to reap any profits out of a fresh product launch, they themselves having already recouped their development costs.

Watch out for some new DSLR from either Nikon or Sony with significant video features and coming in FF sensor flavour too.

D700s or D800 ;).

Nope, mine didn't.
Mine came with 1.2.4.

MSColor selling $3199 with gst. limited stocks.

Could it be shops are trying to dump the bodies with old firmware? or the new shipment of 5DMkII will have a cheaper cost price so shops are dumping those that have been brought in at a higher cost so as not to suffer too much loss.

Is this a Canon initiated price drop or initiated by the retailers themselves.

that is one possibility. But how come Canon Japan/USA has not drop their price to the level of Canon Singapore? That is the puzzling part to me since Japan/US has a very large market.

The firmware can always be upgraded without too much trouble. And, the shops usually don't keep too big of a stock on such high end cameras plus the price change came from Canon Singapore's RRP and not just the street price from the various shops.

Call ms color 10mins ago,quote $3180,7d $2390.

I will treat this like paper loss. Anyway, it's a FF so use it jialat jialat. New model comes dont buy and hold till history repeats itself.
