Canon Singapore normally will not lead in lowing their camera price, they will only follow Japan/USA/Hong Kong.
Strange happening... Someone typo at Canon leading to unintended price drop? Just thinking out loud..
Noooooooooooooo! can the TS delete this thread? i cannot stop thinking of 5DMKII now!
D700s or D800I think this is in anticipation of something significant from the competition. Either Nikon or Sony, more likely the latter if digital video is the focal feature of interest here.
When you bring the price ceiling down after conquering the market, it makes it very much more difficult for the competition to enter the market with any significant bang. And makes it even more difficult to reap any profits out of a fresh product launch, they themselves having already recouped their development costs.
Watch out for some new DSLR from either Nikon or Sony with significant video features and coming in FF sensor flavour too.

Nope, mine didn't.
Mine came with 1.2.4.
MSColor selling $3199 with gst. limited stocks.
that is one possibility. But how come Canon Japan/USA has not drop their price to the level of Canon Singapore? That is the puzzling part to me since Japan/US has a very large market.I think this is in anticipation of something significant from the competition. Either Nikon or Sony, more likely the latter if digital video is the focal feature of interest here.

The firmware can always be upgraded without too much trouble. And, the shops usually don't keep too big of a stock on such high end cameras plus the price change came from Canon Singapore's RRP and not just the street price from the various shops.Could it be shops are trying to dump the bodies with old firmware? or the new shipment of 5DMkII will have a cheaper cost price so shops are dumping those that have been brought in at a higher cost so as not to suffer too much loss.
Is this a Canon initiated price drop or initiated by the retailers themselves.
