5Dmk2 $3.3k with GST

students are rich nowadays... i still remember when i have started working for a few years, i still can't bear to spend money even on a low end camera with kit lens....

anyway, it is good lah.. learn it at a younger age is always better.. :)

Yep, i remembered those days, when I worked hard just to lay my hands on a SLR. Hiaz, times had changed.

A lot of people wtb 5D II at 2.5k-2.6k. :bsmilie:
But no one wts at that price.
If some one buy brand new at 3127 => They need 6 months if selling.
If some one bought at 3.7 => They never sell at 2.5k-2.6k since they feel a big loss.
=> No chance to get 2nd at 2.5k-2.6k now.
Ha ha.

There are always people who don't mind making a fool out of themselves. :bsmilie:

hahaha... LMAO

and i'll never sell to such pple..

neither would i.... haha... think they are juz wasting their time...
even if the px dropped to 3163, lowest recorded so far... they are already out of stock i believe frm those shop... think next lowest is 3.2k to 3.3k liaoz... for 2.6k... can ask them to dream on.... perhaps 2.9k for a warrantied set is more reasonable...

agree with u... even before the price dropped was announced, i saw used sets being sold at marginal discounts vs brand new price (around 10% off street price of brand new set).

And also, correct me if i'm wrong but most 5dmk2 buyers will not find a reason for selling unless it's to (a) upgrade to 1dsmk3 or coming 1dsmk4, (b) switch camp, (c) give up photography.

probably 6 months later, we can see that 2.5-2.6k price.

These are the voices from existing 5D mk II users.

If a 2nd hand EOS 5D mk II is really selling at $2,500, why the 2nd hand 5D mk I which is a 4 years old model can still sell at $1,800-$2,200? Shouldn't the price of 5D mk I dropped to $1,500. :dunno: In addition, the brand price of EOS 50D is around $1,500, why the 2nd hand market is selling at $1,200 and above? Shouldn't it also drop to $1,000 or lower? Same goes to a brand new EOS 500D which is selling at $900, but 2nd hand market price is not $500.

When the price of brand new 5D mk II was selling at $3,750-3,800++, the 2nd hand price was around $3,300-$3,500. That's a difference of $300++. Now that the brand new price dropped to $3,200, people are asking for $2,500 for a used piece, that's a $700 difference.

Therefore, it is all about willing buyer, willing seller - the invisible hands at work.

Monkeys see, monkeys do. When one person is asking for $2,500 for a used 5D mk II, all others jumped into the bandwagon.

If someone wanted to sell his 5D mk II at $2,500 or lower, it is his decision, isn't it?

Actually, if the price is confirm to stay at 3.2k, then what can those wanting to sell do? don't wish to sell at 2.5-2.6 but cannot sell at 3.1-3.2. I think they are force to the 2.8-2.9 level. It is up to those who want to buy to see if 300-400 savings is worth getting a used set.

Canon doing a price drop like that is forcing the people who has been sitting on the fence to take sides - those looking for upgrades to make the upgrade, those undecided between Canon or Nikon/Sony to buy Canon, those with old cameras to buy new, etc. They want to boost their sales. I do not think Canon will not be concerned about the used market. They would know people looking at midrange such as xxD and 7D will think twice because of the used price market. I suspect this is a short term move by Canon to skim the market for those on the fence. The price may bounce back to 3.4-3.5 level after a while. Else it will hurt their midrange products in the long run.

Actually the reason why 5DII price drop is becos 7D sold too well and nobody buys 5DII. Hence the result.

How it is affecting the '2nd-hand sellers' is not at the agenda of Canon, I believe.

But, why would anyone want sell 5DII? Doesn't buying, selling and buying lead to more loss? Why do people sell? Cos of forums? Last time Internet not so advance, there's little selling.

See, how technology's improved.:bsmilie:

yes, i'm an existing 5dmk2 user for a fact :)

anyway, price will always drop, that's inevitable, and we buy cameras to shoot, not for capital appreciation. so as long as it's clocked sufficient actuation to justify the initial outlay, there's really no reason to grumble about any "loss".

just my 2 cents.

Yes, all electronics depreciate over time but vary in terms of degree. Of course, there are some electronic items appreciate over time due to scarcity or collectibles.

How did u come to this reasoning?

You are right, my friend decided to upgrade to 1DMKIV and sold her 5DMKII with 4k shutter count to me for $1950, a price that is definitely much cheaper than the normal resale price before the price drop.

i think the reason for the price drop is because Nikon dropped their price for D700 to 3.2 to 3.3k region.

Are we treating our camera like stock & property now, and with the herd instinct ? Are these people trying to cut their losses ? Those are the people that always get burnt in the stock market, buy high and sell low... Unless there is an upgrade decision involved, else, I really don't understand. I bought my 5D2 when it was 3.9K, but when I saw that the price drop I'm happy. Granted the feeling may not be the same if I just bought it last week... but longer term price drop is good for consumer. It used to cost 400+ to get a decent film SLR, and 1K+ for a high-end one, I would wish one day the price will drop to that point. I think a reasonable price is $500 for entry, and $2000 for 5D range, so let's hope one day we will get there soon. I'm sure that is sufficient to cover their cost, leave them plenty rooms to recover it from lens profit.

I visited a shop in Singapore (reputable) and the owner said that ever since the launch of 7D, 5DII's sales has plummeted. Search for 1st hand info yourself.

Ya I am sure we are getting there..... just look at how they are selling printer now..... dirt cheap.... laser printer going at 300+ to 400+.... unheard of just a couple of years ago..... I bought a HP printer recently... kns break down within a week... bought in to HP service centre, the fella there told me HP dont service printer anymore... I need to call their hotline, if they can solve over the phone, okay, else, they send another unit to me for replacement...... the god damn thing is so cheap they dont bother to repair, the labour cost will probably cost more then replacing one..... how they earn then...... through the ink cartridge and toner, which is F expensive..... and everyone will need ink to print.....

So, camera, sama sama...... sell body cheap cheap.... but you need lens.... so.... heeee....

Well cant argue with 'reputable shop owner n hes quite correct if one model sell more other model may sell less - but for the model price to....drop!
mmmm..MkIv could be selling like hot cakes: which model price will drop?;p

Bro ur so fortunate to have friends like her:thumbsup: if not fr me having the MkIII i will buy the MkIv - the 1D model is super cam fr me atleast, still...having a combo of MkIII + 5D2 is superb: Fps + Hd + Ff  emm..well.. now i need an NlE pC + Ips monitors an all is good. With the savings frm 5D2 i can topup to get the 24MkII or upgrade 70-200to IS

Our nightmare has came true.

Was at the fair earlier, there's a group of students shooting away which I suspect is from some photography club, all strapped with 5DMkII and 7D.

I was like..... er..... hiaz.... and walk off.

What's wrong with students using high-end cameras? Why is it a nightmare? They are using there own cameras, they can do what they want.

oh yea.. school holiday just started :bsmilie:

What's wrong with students using high-end cameras? Why is it a nightmare? They are using there own cameras, they can do what they want.

It is very common now...I see many of my students come in Merc S class...Posche SUV....and etc to school every morning...buying a 5DM2 and 7D are their parents spare change which they might have miss placed under their pillow.

Cameras have become a symbol of status.

I know of a secondary student a few years ago. At that point of time, he wanted to buy a Canon camera and so he asked his dad to sponsor it. The dad asked the salesman what is the latest and best Canon camera, so 1D mk II was bought at $6,000++. He told the man, money is not an issue, if I want to buy, I will only buy the best.

Students nowsdays compared among themselves on what they have, and not on the photos, said one of my friend who is a secondary school teacher. One student told his friends that his dad bought him a 1D mk IV, so what did you have or what did your dad buy for you?

That's why we can see that students carry 1-series and 5D mk II and so on. This is so common nowadays. There is no need to be alarmed.
