i don't think it's the "promise" of a new camera (or an upgrade) every 18 months or so, it's just the expectation of something to match the offerings of the dark side (of the force). powerful, the dark side is.

 so can the darkside really bring back the ..... !! :o

if canon cannot pull a good one, they are doomed.

I'd love to think that as a motivation for Canon to innovate more aggressively.

Unfortunately, the reality is far from it. They won't be doomed with a dismal or non-existent 5D replacement. They'll simply flood the low-end/entry (read, easy to con) market with sh_tload of crap. 1000D, 1000Di, 1500D, 2000D etc etc etc.

On the same note though, that unstable AF issue of the 1D/1Ds might be the Achilles heal that can take them down.

I think Canon should be able to easily fix the AF issues for the 5D2, it being a simpler camera. It should also have the best FF sensor, second only to perhaps 1Ds3/1Ds2. Disregarding other specs, I think the 5D2 should be able to produce better image files at low ISOs than the D3/D700. ;p

that's not what the average consumer wants. We want good performance at high ISOs. 6400, 12800, 25600, 51200, bring it on!

While we are at this ISO at strastrosphere, why not a FF 8MP with ISO 102400. If they can do ISO 25600 at 12MP, assume they can gain 1 stop with some better microlens or Digic IV, plus larger sesor size with FF at 8MP, I am sure 2 stop gain is possible. I am still happy with my 30D resolution, and don't think I can handle the 2x file size with my current computer processing power.

Give it to me Canon !

What do you think about built in flash in the 5D Mark II? It would be kind of useful for beginner and amateurs. Nikon has already introduced one for the D700 which is the direct competitor and i think they're trying to hint to Canon about this?

I wouldn't care for the built in flash. I never use my built in flash on my 30D. I do hear from one second hand camera shop that a guy sell away his 5D after 1 week because it doesn't have build in flash . I think, if you need a build in flash, you don't need a 5D, get a IXUS 80.

And, Nikon D700 build in flash can be a master to trigger secondary flash, there is a useful purpose to have it on Nikon. None of Canon build in flash can do that, so it's meaningless to have it on body like 5D.

true,i never used my built in flash on my 30D as well
so doesnt matter to me as well

because she thinks that pro bodies doesn't need fresh; that's why

I think it is more like the pros using them will have external flash anyway.

There's no such thing as for pro only cameras. Even 1D series, anyone who has the budget can buy.

then upon reaching home...

"what, no inbuilt flash? what kind of lousy equipment is this?"

If given the built in flash, why not? :)

Sometime you just want to go light....do you bring out your full gear everytime you leave the house with your 5D or 1D series?:sweat:

No built-in flash is not an issue to me as i always use my external one. Even when i use my 10D, i've never used the internal flash too.
