mai drop liao lah...i sim tiah already...lost almost $700 already :bsmilie:

Yah....hooo.....keep droping!!!   I think looking at the build of the camera, droping to $3.5K is quite likely. Since the full frame sensor is not as good as the 1 series, for the price to drop to $3.5K is very likely!

it's noise level is the best in the Canon series...even the 1 series cannot par with it. The image quality is truely better than those lower mega pixels(including the 1 series) in this particular case...except the ($13K+) 1Ds mk2...

The Canon EOS 5D's Image quality is excellent. This should be a surprise to none. As a broad statement, I would say that the Canon EOS 5D's image quality falls between the 20D and the Canon EOS 1DS Mark II - more because of the number of pixels than anything else. Dynamic range is good, but appears to be slightly closer to the 20D than the 1Ds Mark II.

So, who is going to buy the Canon EOS 5D?

The Canon EOS 5D will appeal to both advanced amateurs and professionals who need or want very high image quality, wide angle field of view and/or shallow depth of field but do not require a high continuous frame rate, durability or weather and dust sealing. Those needing higher frame rates (typically sports and sometimes wildlife photographers) should consider the Canon EOS 20D or the Canon EOS 1D Mark II N as alternatives. Those wanting the ultimate image quality should consider the Canon EOS 1DS Mark II - an incredible camera

The Canon EOS 5D represents a great value in a high quality, high performance, full-frame Digital SLR. You get excellent quality, high resolution images for less money than ever before. I found very little to critique or complain about. This camera will exceed the requirements of many photographers.

Wah bro, free advert for Canon? hehe ;)

wah... u cut-&-paste from some website izzit ? :bsmilie:

I spend so much of my time espousing the merits of this camera in the forums I thought I might as well just do it here.

This is a REALLY fine digital camera, when used carefully and exposed correctly the images are easily the equal of medium format and virtually up to the standards of the 1DsII. The 'banding' some describe is usually due to poor exposure and expecting miracles from 3200 ISO. Image quality is what the 5D is all about and it delivers. Focusing is fast and accurate and the big viewfinder makes manual focus easy when needed.

I have now sold my beloved 1-Series as this is much more my sort of camera. I can use it with one hand at the top of a ladder, I can see the menu because of the lovely big lcd, the images appear instantly - it makes my 20D look slow! I have never inadvertently changed a setting and the two-stage on/off switch is a sensible way of preventing this.

The quality of the images is, in my opinion distinctly superior to that of my 1DII, that is the sharpness and dynamic range are more or less the same but the 5D's image is much. much bigger. This equates to less noise, bigger enlargements and good scope for cropping. I am now able to leave my converted RAW files with no further processing needed. I am now able to use up to 400 ISO as if it were 100 without fear of noise.

Build quality is on a par with Canon's original professional manual focus FD 1 series (F1N etc) and perfectly good. This is a professional standard workhorse and exactly the camera Canon needed to show their huge superiority in this marketplace, it is not a consumer point-and-shoot and should not be described as such. It doesn't need nor should it have a pop-up flash!

In summary, this is a very nearly perfect camera. It is the first digital camera I have owned that I know I will keep, there is nothing much I would need that this can't do, up till now the market was evolving, now it is maturing. Canon has (sensibly) decided that full-frame matters, Nikon has other ideas, I believe Canon is right. They have a serious winner on their hands with the 5D.

arrgghhhh...dun like dat leh, i already lost so much $ liao, still ask me to BBB :bsmilie:

but i gotta admit, the 5D is one heck of a camera. although a bit pricey, it's the closest to full frame without the added weight of the 1Ds. I just don't like the AF as compared to the 1D2 - but others will have other opinions on this :)

This is a little OT, but i'm sort of price watching myself. Any news on the price of the 1DM2N? It looks like both the 1DM2N and 5D debuted at pretty much the same time, and while the 5D price drop is nice to see, what about the 1DM2N price?

Anyone knows? the last time i checked was just a week plus ago, and AP said still $7k plus.

If the 5D price tumbles yet again and the 1DM2N price holds steady then i may have to consider the 5D even though i really want the 1DM2N. :(

my original rationale was to move up from my 20D to the 45pt AF, better AI servo and a bigger crop. since the 5D and grip price would approach that of the 1DM2N i thought it better to go to the 1D straight, but now the 5D price is almost within reach!

help me.. i'm drooling as i type this.. LOL

Why are you losing money? Your camera is still able to shoot for another 10 years or more.:dunno: Its not a IPO stock where it has paper value. Go shoot more and dun worry about its value. Its worth nothing if you dun use it as a camera
