For this you have to understand what is aperture, depth of field and rear curtain flash sync. Once you understand this 3, you will know how to do it
I understand all this....but is this lens capable off shooting clear backdrop for a night potrait is totally different thing. Just want to know if f1.8 is clear enough for background

Why not? Depending on the subject distance, f11 or f16 should give you a clear background

Is the filter $30 because the price tag said so? As with the 50mm just ask for the price of the filter and you'll be quoted much less than that! You should be able to get a Tokina filter, which is decent I suppose at decent price as well.

Hi zurichdo, sorry I do not have the specific prices as it's only a few items I have asked for quotes for previously, and besides as it was awhile ago the quotes would no longer be accurate. The only item I really bought from him was the 50mm itself, but this was quite awhile ago (I didn't get it at $99 but he did give me a free filter, and the price was only slightly more than the photo shops I called up then)
yes it may come as a surprise to many but there really are good deals to be had at HN! Not sure why not all outlets have the promo though, could be because of individual staff members.
Recently at the outlet near my place they had a single piece left of the BG-E3 grip which they said they wanted to clear. They literally asked me to name my price and I got it for $75. I also got an extra original NB-2LH battery for $59 and if anyone if looking for this battery they still have quite a few pieces.
If TS didn't post this there would be people who would buy the $99 50mm and resell it on B&S!

It will affect how much to sell 2nd hand for those who bought at $99. If sell with warranty, need receipt mah. So can't sell at $99 as it is used. Prolly worth $60-70 at most.
I want to buy 1, so if anyone bought and dont like the lens, pls pm me hor. I offer $70.
