50mm f1.8

I guess it depends on the staff attending to you. I've sent in pns, dlsr and lens for servicing on several occasions. Some of the front counter staff asks for receipt while some don't. Perhaps Jennyfur80 met the staff who goes by the book.

Looking at the online warranty, its the consumer who enters the data and is open to abuse - some may post date the purchase. To be on the safe side, an official receipt will be your best bet.

Just one explanation to the counter staff will do. Tell them your receipt was a thermal paper one, faded to a blank piece of paper after a few months. Which is very true, I bought a Speedlite from a departmental store and the receipt now can hardly see anything and I did not register online, so is my speedlite still under warranty if I did not register?

I had also bought some items from Sim Lim with undated receipt, is my product warrantied till I fill in the date?

Went to Suntec Harvey Norman to buy this 50mm F1.8II lens after seeing this post..
at first the sales guy charged me $129.. then i told him i saw in forum, other harvey outlets are selling $99.. how come your outlet price is different, harvey norman not all fixed prices ???
then he smile and say ok lah.. charge u $99..!
Well i didnt know harvey norman also can have price range???
anyway i am happy to get this 50mm F1.8 lens

haha, why HN cannot have price range leh? the cost price to all HN outlets are the same... just that when the salesperson discount the price for you, it's simply deducting his portion of commission nia... so... it's really a matter of choice whether they want to sell it to you at a cheap price...

true. i bought the 50mm, didn buy the 75-300 @ $299 (though a very good price already).
when i heard that i could only get the 75-300 @ $199 only with purchase of a body, was quite put off.
cause now i know the cost is way below $199, and the extra $100 i pay does not go to the lens, but to HN instead.
and its a big difference, 100/199. a 50% more.

I think you forgot to mention that it is registered with Canon Malaysia...

It is normal because Malaysia giving 1+1 year of warranty now. If you have bought before 31 Dec 2010, it is 1+2 years.

Anyway, $270 is a good price. You got at JB or further north?

Mates, I just got my EF50mm f/1.8 II this afternoon in Harvey Norman Funan Centre for $120 including the German Steinzeiser filter. Before I went to HN, I asked a good shop in peninsula plaza, and they sell it for $130 without filter. Those who are interested on this lens might want to go and get it there, the good fella named Tony is the one who served me, He say this is good until supply last.

Not sure how true the site about German Steinzeiser filter....

That is rather expensive, it is only S$15 for the exact same filter from MS colour in singapore.

Mates, sorry for the late reply. Yes, can get the EF50mm f/1.8 II for only S$110 then, the fella there asked if i wanted a filter? he say i can just add S$10 for the filter, which i did.
