Hmm.. since so many people have the 50mm lens f1.7 or f14..
maybe we should organize a 50mm lens outing for SONY / KM next ;)

Rashkae,
Thanks for the offer.. I think it's not the lens or camera.. rather it's due to f1.4 setting.. It's difficult to get the good focus..
I'm doing more testing with the lens.. and I think the lens is OK. :)

Ok. Have you stried using the F1.4 at F1.7? I find it to be excellent, much better than the F1.7 at F1.7. ;)

I did more test on the lens and seem to be fine if I'm near the object..

focus on foodie

focus on no sushi

But when I'm further from the object, a bit difficult..

focus on no sushi at home..

Seem like the lens if fine.. it's just that at f1.4.. not easy to get a sharp focus on moving object. :)
Our camera tend to focus on more contrast area, even though if we put spot focus, it still will focus on the slightly off centre more contrast area like in your last photo.

Even not at f/1.4, the 50mm sometime focus on the more contrast background rather than the subject

just curious, whats shutter speed for the pic taken of the boy ??...

Camera: Konica Minolta DYNAX 5D
Exposure: 1/4000 sec
Aperture: f/1.4
Focal Length: 50 mm
ISO Speed: 100

It got that much light at 1/4000s???

Can't wait for my own 1.4 to arrive! (Tired of loaning...) :D

Hi,
Just to update all that at the end, I send in my camera to SONY service center for calibration. I found out that there is back focus issue when I use KM5D with KM 50 f1.4 lens...
The other lens, no problem...

Collected the camera today, indicated in the record, alignment done on sensor #4 7.. defects 4 2 misaligned.. repair 6 d e software..
Seem like now the focus is spot on.. and the AF seems to be faster as well..:)
I need to verify the faster AF part but the focus definitely improved. :)

Another point to highlight is the great service from Mr. Seah. I called him this afternoon to inform him that I need the camera for tomorrow Thaipusam shoot & needs to collect the camera tonight.. and he immediately work on my camera.. I managed to collect my camera by 7pm.. Great support SONY and Mr. Seah

Yes, Mr. Seah/ Sia (?) is nice and helpful,
I calibrated my KM5D also with him while KM was still around and service center at Commonwealth.
Glad that yr camera now working well with the 50/1.4 :)
