Hi there,

Think the savings about $185 (price + Freight + GST). I got a quote for the same lens at Alan Photo for $830 w GST.

Hmmm.. Newbie question. Do you think that the additional 1.5 years warranty is required? Canon and Nikon is both 1 year, + 3 months if register online. Just thinking whether do the lens really fall apart during the 1 year?

u never know, something might go wrong over the 1 year period, especially with third party lens compatibility. Somemore, if u change body during that period and you need to calibrate lens again, warranty will come in handy.

i beg to defer.

when you change body, not necessary you need to recalibrate the lens. also if you have money to change body, you should able to spend 80 buck if i not wrong to recalibrate the lens to the new body. just my opinion.

but i agree extended warranty if your lens keep having problems. but so far, Sigma 50mm f1.4 is a gem :) very good lens to own

Hi All,
I'm new in DSLR. Need some advice. Regarding "Sigma's seems to have a high bf/ff problem and mostly likely have to bring back to Sigma service centre for calibration". Seen i very new in this DSLR. How i can differentiate? How the defect look like in Viewfinder.

I also interest to get 1, if not too troublesome. May be we can ask to calibrate at the same time.

Thanks
Currently own a Canon 500d.

BF/FF focus problem means say you focus some alphabet character on your keyboard, say B H Y, when you focus on H, when you look at the photo, B is clearer, this is back focusing, if Y is clearer, then is front focusing...

if i am wrong, someone pls enlighten me...

Thanks all for your opinions and advice! I really appreciate that!

Regarding the Sigma International Warranty, I have been trying to get a straight answer from Sigma Singapore to see if they will honour Sigma's International warranty with the properly stamped receipt but they have been stone-walling me for almost a week without a clear yes/no. It seems like I am not the only one who didn't get a straight answer from them.

That Dr. Freddy Ng is the same guy who corresponded with me. I give up. :thumbsd::thumbsd::thumbsd:

After thinking it through, I think I will get it from Tin Cheung online. Anyone interested can PM me and we can think of a way to buy together and save on the postage cost.

After finish reading the article post from "Far far Away". I think i will go for local shop and get 2+ 1/2 year warranty.

From some article, Sigma 50mm 1.4 need to calibrate because it can use on Canon, Nikon and Four thirds mount.(coz of the different focal length> Canon at 80mm, Nikon and Four thirds mount at 75mm)

wonder what is the different at mount part??
Is that mean this lens can use at both Canon & Nikon at the same time, as sIGMA 50MM 1.4 EX DG HSM. Can't tell which mount is make for??

first, not all sigma lens needed to be calibrate....my friend and my copy dont have problem...

2nd, all make have different mount, so Sigma design for both Canon & Nikon, they cannot be use on both bodies...if yes then would be good news...but there is some adaptor than you can get to use Nikon lens on Canon body, might loose AF control...

cheers

I choose Sigma coz it has auto AF issues , that's why i like to calibrate the lens and take a spend time go to Sigma Service Centre .

Good point! :bsmilie:
Sigma has history problem with QC.

becos he's a canonian...

only believe in canon...

Sigma has history problem with QC.
You will agree with me until you receive their 'bad copy' :bsmilie:
For me Canon 50mm f/1.4 is good enough. More bokeh? go f/1.2!

the canon 50mm 1.4 has enough problems on its own lor..

one must be open to other 3rd party brands not just be stuck on canon.. but i'm not saying you la, just reminding TS to be open to quality glass of other brands..

canon 1.4 is notorious for its AF problem. I know very well cos my copy AF was spoilt also. better to spend a bit of time to calibrate the sigma rather than always spend time going and not forgetting paying gd money to CSC continuously for coming out with such a lousy product. canon ought to be ashamed for producing such poor AF mechanism :thumbsd:

It is a shame that as the no. 1 DSLR maker, Canon cannot produce a 50mm that is really good and commensurate with what you pay for. A good 50mm is extremely basic for any camera maker. Canon just want us to pay for its more expensive zooms and L lenses.
