50D or D300

IMO, one should just stick to (any)one system and enjoy photography, unless ones find more joy on comparing different (brand/make/model) cameras than photography alone.

you can never go wrong either of the 2 systems. It's your own preference matters.

if i am a new user, and i am about to buy a DSLR, would u advise me to buy D300 or 50D?

Some, yes. But wait for Nikon's version of the AF tweaking for example and a MP bump. D300 was better than the 40D back then prior to the 50D launch.

Im curious, will D300X/D400 have movie recording functions? Canon fails to include it in the 50D

the D300 was a higher level camera than the 40D and is still a higher level camera than the 50D. the 50D is just a 40D with more pixels than anybody needs. it still has the same prosumer AF as the 40D with 9 cross-points compared to the D300's pro AF 51 points with 15 cross points.

Nikon and Canon seldom pitch their cameras directly against each other. The 400D/450D is higher than the D40/D60 but lower than the D80/D90. Similarly, the 40D/50D is higher than the D80/D90 but below the D300 etc etc

D300 does have AF micro adjustment, but it is implemented differently from Canon's. It is debatable which system is better (if there's such a thing at all).

To have a beauty handwriting, should I buy a Pilot pen or a Pentel pen? It all depends on the writer himself. Both are Good pens...Go to the nearest Popular Bookstore to try the pens before you buy....

You can try Swan brand too...

Hahahahahahha. It is like asking what word processor a great novelist uses. No offense to the thread starter. I am just responding to lunas' post.:bsmilie:

PS. I am cheaper, I use free pens from seminars and conferences.:sweatsm:

Can... It's your money afterall.. Don't let others teach you how to spend your money. You spend it yourself the way you like it. ;p

I have been a Nikon user for 20 years now, I don't think I'll ever get used to the UI of other systems. So no matter how much better people claim other systems to be, I'll only buy what I'm comfortable with because I'm the one using it.[/
wa..this phrase powerful sia...lol..

When i was looking for a DSLR, the salesman told me that the EOS 50D is only comparable to the 90D. And even between the two, he said he would go for the 90D. "Interface better!" He sold all the many different brands, but somehow he and my friends pushed me to getting Nikon. (He did have stock for the 50D)

Like others have mentioned here, i felt that the 50D was not very user friendly. I'm a complete newbie, and somehow the D300 seemed much easier to use. And more importantly, i was very comfortable with it.

Got it exactly a week ago, and i have absolutely no regrets. Infact when i brought it to the F1 race last week, 2 people struck up a conversation with me while queuing up for food because of the camera that was slung on my shoulder.

I'm not sure this is a valid point, but i believe you pay for what you get, and there is a vast difference between the price of the EOS 50D (Body only) and D300 (Body only).

So far i have only used it on 3 days, and i'm proud to say, that just an hour of reading the manual and experimentation, plus the vast amount of advice i have gotten on this forum, i know how to operate more than 3/4 of the camera's functions/settings. That's how well laid out the interface of the Nikon is. (My VERY FIRST DSLR)

Go with your heart!
Cheers!

Erm can I ask how much did u pay for ur d300 eh??

wow...from what u guys say, loooks like i don wan get NIKON oso cannot sia..haha

you DID post in the Nikon forum after all.

The D300 is a great camera. So is the 50D. So is the D200, D90, 40D, 30D, 20D for that matter. But pay attention to the lens(es) as well, don't just get the most expensive body you can afford. A great lens with a slightly older body will get you much better photos than a mediocre lens with the latest and greatest camera body.

bottom line: when u invest in a brand C or N or etc , its essentially investing into the system of lenses in which you prefer.

And also your shooting preferences, style, requirements.

Everyone has their own opinion of what is good, what is bad, which performs better, why it is better, so on so forth.

In the end, have to go down to a shop and find one that truly feels like good in your hands, gives you the "feel" as i call it.

Nikon ergonomics has never let me down! :)

there is no end to comparing technologies as each camp will get better and better...

anyway would it make u a legend if a D3 or 1DsM3 is given to u? why not compare urself with other better photographers and improve your own "technology"...better cameras dun make ur composition better

The only thing that makes people go WOW is the Hasselblad CF-39.
