Hi guys, since the 500D does not have a AF assist lamp, does it mean that I have to pop up the flash to AF and push it back down if I do not want the flash to fire in my shots?
bought for $1-2 dollars online =) but no brand one la
sorry OT abit...
just wondering what's the purpose of this thread, for 500D owners to come put their name on the list n watch it grow? kinda pointless unless someone is doing something with the list...
or for 500D users to come psot questions abt the camera - a more meanigful purpose
am posting this cos i find the name list pretty irritating n pointless
Depends on what you're using the lens for. If you want a 'normal' prime lens for general shooting, the 50mm f/1.4 is actually unsuitable (due to 1.6x=80mm equiv on 500D). What you'll likely want is the 35mm F/2.0 (56mm equiv). For portraits the 50mm is fine. The 85mm will give you 136mm on the 500D which is too narrow for general shooting but great for head/shoulder portraits or indoor sports. The build quality is much better then the 50mm and 35mm lenses and AF is super fast. I love mine, but the range of uses is rather limited.Hi There,
I'm intending to get 500D. However, I'm pondering over 50mm f/1.4 and 85mm f/1.8 lens - not sure which one would be a better choice. What's your take ? :dunno:

Beware though, the EF 50mm f/1.4 has a nasty reputation for being pretty fragile-the focusing helicoid gets damaged rather easily:

hi guys , recently bought myself a 500d.
been lovving' it yeah..
but i got some prob that need verifying ,whether there is other 500d user face ths same prob, or it the user 'me' problem..
been taking some night landscape shots.
heres what i face.
cant seem to manual focus on live view cos image is too dark.
ok the scene was very dark theres only some passage way light behind me.
front scene was dark eg. scene of a reservoir.
tried adjusting iso ,aps , slower shutter speed ,zoom in zoom out,but all doesnt seem to brighten up the scene on liveview. just pitch black on the lcd.:dunno:
however on my gf G10 the live view werks fine.
the more i lower down the shutter speed the brighter the scene on the lcd.
easier to focus.
is there some prob with my 500d?
or its normal for dslr.
hellppp me all 500d master n chifu..
thanks.![]()
Hi Digital3yez,
having my eye on the 500D too but waiting for the hols to get one haha
anyways regarding the 1.6x, its actually related to the size of the image sensor. Which in the case of 500D, results in a 1.6 crop factor for focal length.
A 50mm focal length lens will look like your using a 1.6 X 50 = 80mm lens =)
here's a link to explain better heh
