you may find alot of people sell not because the 500D is not good, infact from the 500D community here, you should know how popular this camera is.

one reason why people sell may be because of the canon buy back program which you can buy 500D(kit2) at 21% off retail price by trading in a use canon camera. That is you can get a 500D+ 18-200IS lens at $1588 (retail $1999).

The reason why they bought the 500D kit2, may not be for own use, as some of them will only need either the camera or the lens, hence selling away their 500D, in this way, they get the lens at a very cheap price. Some of them will work the other way round, and sell the lens and keep the camera.

Because staff do not need to trade in a old canon camera, hence their staff purchase may not be so Good. for your info, they do not check your camera condition, they will also take in spoilt canon camera. 1 of my colleague went to trade in his spoilt canon camera and buy the kit2, then he sold the 18-200mm IS lens for 850, meaning he bought the 500D body for only 1588-850=738.

yes, they only want to see the canon logo on your camera.

they will not do any testing, they will not even power on your camera. maybe we should discuss this topic at Canon buy back program thread, before Mod make noise that this is a off topic discussion.

500D came out in april 2009. But so far no news of a 550D.
So i think the best guess, is that xxxD series might n most prolly went back to the 18mth cycle instead of 12mth cycle from 450D to 500D.
