Hi all,
I am new to DSLR and also jus bought a 500D from MS.
Paid $1060 for body and $125 for 50mm f1.8 (As adviced from a good friend)
Currently looking for a good wide angle zoom to compensate the shortcoming in range.

I'm also planning to buy 500d. is the price that you paid includes gst? what are the free gifts MS gives you?

i only got a screen protector and the lens cleaning kit, which i find is a total useless thing. Inferior quality stuffs.
Also got a Tokina UV filter $10, which i think its totally useless... Most of the time i took it out coz its causing reflection within the lens.

Better get at least a class 6 SD card for video recording. The 8Gb SD given by Canon is only class 4. Do not that if you use video mode often, the "utility" of the sensor is greater - ie. shorten the life of the sensor at higher rate. Better to use a video camera if you take lots of video instead of still shots.

If i remember correctly, the max is 4gb per continious video clip.. no matter ur card 4/8/16gb.. i guess u can stop and quickly start again the 2nd video if you're using a 8gb card?

Btw, my 2x 8gb class 4 cards seem to work fine (720/1080).. They're Lexar brand.. I've also got a sandisk ultra extreme (class 6), 4gb, also works fine..

Got another 8gb sandisk ultra class 4, but never open to test yet.. will update when i get to test it..

I believe overall it depends on your SD card.. i believe that video recording requires a certain speed of SD card, and some (maybe even most/all) class 4 usually can perform at that rate.. but class 6 guarantees that can perform at that rate, thus canon put the class 6 requirement..

Cause if they put class4, and someone put in a lousy class 4, cannot work, then will make noise mah.. but if they say class 6 needed, but pple put in class4 also can work.. then they will happy lor.. win-win situation for canon!

Btw, I almost forgot.. the lousy "pendrive" one given by canon with the 500d also can work on video mode.. that one lagi best (even better), never even say the class is 4 or 6 or watever.. but can work leh! hahhaha

Jus use it on 720 as the 1080 recording only 20fps and 720 having 30fps..

Just curious though. If you are getting a DSLR, why do you bother so much about the video recording? If you need to record a video, wouldn't it be better to get a camcorder or something like that? :think:

Yeah, Song Brothers also sells original battery at 80+ to 90. Can't remember the exact figure. But then again. My friend said his battery for 450D can last for 500+ shots in 2 charges.

Guess trick is to off the LCD and to shoot photos purely using viewfinder. A bit difficult for me at first, but now I'm getting the hold of it. Yeah. :bsmilie:

lol. it's a useful feature.
i use the video function as times where there are moments and u can switch from photo mode to video (HD) in a sec!
