Need some help broz,Just brought the 400D(Kit 2) and e 200mm lens at $2398.A good price.E sales actually explain to me what the differences between 400D & D40X,quite impress.Thats why go for it,4OD is very popular man sold up for today. How long to i need to charge e batt for the 1st time, and to charge how many hours after that forgot to ask them???Also any recommanded outlets can i get parts like Batt, screen protector and so on,penisula...?They also give this free battery grip, how do i go about using and is it useful?I hereby thks you guyz for the advice.Cheers...: )

you should go for the 40D but since you're new, you can play with my 400D until you're familiar with all the function - I'll give you back your 40D then

400D replacement is coming next Feb with live view. Is it worth waiting for? That's up to you.

How reliable is this source? :dunno:

Whats the hype with live view!? Is it crucial for getting that excellent shot? i dun think so...

Functions in 400D, though not as kilat as 40D, are still much more than enough for average user like us. Spend the money on lenses and when you get more involve in photography, then a better option might be FF.

I'm using a 400D and still no regrets.... still struggling to learn its capabilities. And not even wanting to upgrade to 40D.

My take.... 400D ... cheap and good enough.

Ya 400D is quite decent.
Though small n light, can counter/entend with a vertical grip
Thou not as high tech as 40D, can used it as a decent backup by the time 50D is out in 1.5yr.
Thou no live view, it would not consume the extra 30% of your battery.
Thou a bit slower than 40D, but your creative mind can compensate for it.;)

thanks for the quick and helpful replies to everyone. i think i will just get the 400d and practise and build up experience and equipment until i move onto a higher platform. ;););)

based on normal charging patterns, 8hrs on 1st charge, 2nd and onwards as per normal.

as for the retail shops.. the usual ones like CP, AP, John3:16, TK Foto etc comes to mind.

Battery grip? gives you a more comfortable grip for portrait orientation shots. :sticktong

this is based on Canon's pattern of 18mths product cycle for its xxD and xxxD lines.. but whether it has liveview or not, it remains to be seen..

maybe low angle shots or using MF.. ?
seriously i dont think i will use the liveview often though..

Not crucial all the time but for some situation it would be still useful. For me I would not use it most of the time.

One good thing about Live View is that if you need to ask someone who is not familiar with DSLR to take photo for you (example during a holiday trip), the Live View would be better.

CP, AP, John3:16, TK???:confused:Don't understand the short form bro.By the way thks for the advice;)

After considering, maybe you would consider 400d with a set of lens

17-55mm IS USM ;p

I tried the lense - very good indeed, I am not an expert & am using 400D myself. However, I tried 40D from shop, yes it is good camera, but I choose to invest on lenses instead & brush up my skill (priceless).

40D would be better purchase. in terms of specs, 40D outruns the 400D and price of 400D has fallen greatly. Buy 40D would be better, since it has better specs and can save on upgrading.

You are the first to support 40D ;p

Each has its pros and cons (including price, features, size/weight, high ISO performance etc etc). If I must get a new camera today, it'll be the 40D no doubt.

What's good about live view? When you start shooting macro with manual focusing, you'll know how useful it is. :) No matter how large your viewfinder is (whether it's 95 or 100% coverage, 0.95 or 1.0 or 0.8x magnification), it can never compete against live view with 10x magnification.

But weigh it another way - if I spend less on a cheaper (but still very capable) body, that is the 400D, I have more cash to spend on lenses.

Main consideration for me when choosing a body is its grip, ease of use of its functions and its noise control. 30D definitely outweighs 300D/350D/400D in most aspects above...

40D body with 2gb Sandisk Extreme CF card, EF lens workbook III and 02 x DVD-R for $1872.50 from AP. its a very cheap buy
