saw the 400D at comex just now!! Tried and tested the cam... feels just like the 350D except the enlarged LCD panel and 9 AF pts, and best of all its $1669 with the kit lens!

And now the 350D is only $13xx only....wah... drop so fast!

Oh... but after trying out the 30D... 400D cannot fight if not for the weight :sweatsm:

Pop by CP during my lunch just now to check out the price of 400D. Its about S$1,400 +/-. But i think it's body only la... can't remember as my female colleagues are rushing me... Gals... Haiz...

Under certain circumstances, I've noticed that the flash can give 3 different outputs from 3 exact same frames(mount on tripod) as well, which is quite ridiculous IMO, considering it's a electronic device.

There's always the option to not allow the camera to auto-reduce the flash power. It's one of the CFn's.

True, but would it interfere with the operation outside of those scenarios?

Those chaps who managed to sell their 350Ds before today sure did a good selling. :) @ SRP of $1399, I wonder how much it is at Alan Photo and the likes.

:Later,

:Later,

The predicted street price in US$ is 699, so it should be around 1150. I think those people who bought at the old price of >1000 were either impatient/foolish/didn't care, can't blame the sellers.

Yes, there are a few units of the Nikon D80 is there for testing - manage by CP guys.

Nothing is fair in the world.. D80 is 2289 and 400D is 1699 retail. Kit Lens for D80 is much more expensive than 400D. Nevertheless, the URL offers some indication how both camera will fair in their orginial sets. In this case, D80 certainly looks more pleasing than 400D.

Stoned said:
Because the D80 kit lens cost 4 times what the 18-55 canon kit lens costs. Also, that aside, it's not fair to compare two bodies using two different lenses since IQ from an SLR are so heavily dependent on the lenses used. If you wanted to pit two bodies head to head in such a test you would be better off using a 3rd party lens so you could use the same lens for both bodies.

Furthermore, as both images are jpegs, different levels of sharpening may be set, even though the cameras are left at default, for different manufacturers will set different levels of sharpening as the default.

Price wise is defintely very attractive, slightly cheaper than 350D when it initially launch. However, one big minus point to me... why the camera still use CF cards.... ;( ;(

i tested a 350D, 400D, 30D and D80 today at comex.

i really dunno what to get. i mean i have my mind set at the 350D before the launch of 400D. but as 400D is out now and with so much stuff happening around. i am really not sure what to get! a nikon body really beats canon's flat. i am comparing between a 400D and D80.

pls advise! should i get the 400D during the comex? i called CP, AP, prices for 400D quoted are rather high. CP and AP was 16+, john's gave me a quote of 1520.

only thing attractive for comex is the extra 1 gb cf card. what do you guys think? i am really confused with the choices now!

:bsmilie: I hadn't realised CF cards were a problem! Humour me, why are they a problem? I prefer them to SD actually. Get a 1-series body, you can use both CF and SD!

You've already made up your mind. Go nikon. If I were in your shoes I'd pick the D80 as well, it feels more robust. Last thing, do you currently own a Nikon/Canon film system? If you do, stay with the system.

i am still constrained by budget. D80 a little bit expensive. a 2nd hand 20D sounds sweet but most likely will be rejected by parents.

everybody's lineup is subjective, a100 is sony's lowest and also highest end dslr, but you wouldn't compare it with a d2x or 1dsmkii right? d50 would be way, way below 400d specs.. so is not even a fair comparison to start with, d50 would be more competitive with 350d.. whereas d80 and 400d specs are competitive..
the d80 would have lined up between the xxD series and the xxxD if it were a Canon as it's features don't seem exactly low end. but let's not argue over that. both are highly capable cameras and it's up to nikon and canon to price it according to what they they think the consumer perceives it's worth.
