The differentiation of the earlier 230/290/330/380/390/500/550 alphas was small but quite clear, this new middle ground DSLRs however is not quite so clear !

hmmm... available in Sept, I'll wait a couple months for the dust to settle (hate paying for bleeding-edge technology) ...just in time for Christmas present ! :bsmilie: But wait ! ...the 7XX successor would be out by then ! :dunno:

Just hope they make the camera a single color instead of a mixture of gray/black ...just take a look at the limited edition blonzed A330 compared to the regular A330. Sony should take a cue from Panasonic, they have a Black, Red and Blue G2, M43. Solid colored cameras which looks really attractive.

Yup, the grey/black combo was a failure IMO, makes the plastic looks even cheaper than it looks. That's why they now have all black (matte) for A390.

I dun mind a TITANIUM colour though, something like what they have done well with Cybershot W300...:lovegrin:

I'm thinking if they wanna have color instead of the usual all black or all titanium then be bold and do some colors that have never been done before !!!
I would love a green DSLR that looks like some standard army issue weapon :devil: ...something dark metallic green in the same finish as the limited-edition blonze a330 ! :heart: ...wouldn't hurt if they release a 70-400 SSM G lens in the same matching color at the same time ! ...Birders would flock to grab !

I dont like the idea to discontinue A500/550. They are in the market for only 1 yr and will hurt their value for current owner . Adding A580 alone is fine but dont think we need A560..

Looks like a Sony trend, their a230/a330/a380 was on the market for even less than a year before being replaced by a290/a390.

What I find particular is why must every release have a twin ? ie: a500/a550, a290/a390, a560/a580 and a33/a55 ? ...even e-mount release also got twin ...a black and a titianium!

Anyways Sony has came a long way since it bought over Minolta and introduced a whole bunch of great lenses and tons of innovative functions which are indeed very useful.

I certainly agree. They might not be the one who invented or came out with the features/function but they make them work the way it should...or work better than expected.

No point having a half-cooked feature that is meant to be there for no use.

The R&D function of Sony definitely has done a great job, rather than letting Marketing does all the work with useless features...

Probably if you are used to A200/300/350/700/850/900, then you might be not used to it since the control dial is next to shutter release.

But for current Alpha bodies, the control dial is lower, so it's not easy to mistook it.
