too bad the group being splited up later...

Due to the unforseen weather circumstances at 6.30pm, we thought that there might be heavy downpour. We wouldn't have split up if we didn't abandon our Feng Shui area.

Only DCA, Chengsing and T16 hold on to their position, DCA, Chengsing and T16 are Jedi warrior
Army Lesson number one : Never ever abandon your post, no matter what.
If must abandon, next time, we can actually use bicycle chain to chain the tripod onto the handle along the bridge.

Me, Snowspeeder, Jacky, Holeinone ran under the bridge for cover, when we return 10 mins later, all our post are occupy by other photographers. :mad2:
Sorry Rexus and Bryan, we are not able to safeguard any area for both of you, as you have seen, the bridge are so crowded everywhere.
Paisei paisei, I felt so gulity.
Actually, I intend to have a family photo of all of us together since this is the first time so many Sony users group together.

think tis coming week 1, will have king tigerless... hahahah...

btw since we know our procedures... no need to organise another 1... or else we will be wasting alot of space just booking for others, making ourselves look very bad... den alot of ppl just anyhow cut in den hard to get rid of them... so if we have next shoot, we just meet together then go, no need to book for others... at most just extra 1 or 2 slots if we squeeze...

It was a nice outing tdy, despite the rain and all, as I got to meet up with all of you Sony Jedis. It's good to be to tag a face to the nicks used in the forum. I failed to get any good pics though. I realised that my focus was off only much later and as a result, most of the shots were blur. :( It's ok though, since this 1st attempt is more for trial and error. Hope to produce better results next week. Think King Tiger and Snowspeeder got quite a few good shots. Maybe you guys can share them here and also the settings used.

See you guys next week. Lets pray for better weather.

I would suggest that all meet at the same time so as not to allow what
happened today happen again.

I'll tag along with you next week, same time same place?
Maybe we should bring some white tape to book our corner..... :p

Today's shoot not very satisfactory, the best one I got spoilt by
rain drops on the lens ;(

I actually end up taking video.

I have posted my badly taken shoots on my album.

tis weekend will be joining chengsing and the other few frens for the shoot... will keep u inform of our whereabouts... think slot in 1 space not a problem.

Hi guys,

I was almost at clifford pier today as I was late for a good position. Every shoot is plague by the heads of people...:mad2:...

Anyway, just post the following photo I had taken:
feel free to comment though i know some of the mistakes i had due to improper setup.

DSC01757.jpg

Generally, my settings are set to ISO 64, 4 sec exposure at F8 to capture the streaks of the fireworks and prevent overexposure. NR on.

What I am going to remember next time:
1. Remove the irritating NR (its doing a good job but its taking too long for me to take the next shot)

2. Use bulb for more control.

3. Get a better place!

4. Going to get an axe to chop off the heads!

Oh yah..one more tip. Generally, the photos are spoilt by the smokes, so try to capture all ur best shots early where the smoke are minimal. Else i am quite sure the subsequent shots will be trashed.

Don't think there is bulb mode in F717....

Today was my first time seeing fireworks so close (compared to all those years watching from my house). It's also my first time taking fireworks photos. Quite expected, I was disappointed with my shots. Here they are:

http://homepage.mac.com/lundywong/DriftingThoughts/PhotoAlbum142.html

I used ISO 100, F8, mostly 2 - 3 secs for shutter speed and WB set to Incandescent. My findings and recommendations are as follows:

a) Maybe next time should use ISO 64 for shutter speeds at 4 sec.
b) Our spot on the esplanade bridge is a little too distant away from the fireworks. Had to use zoom. Perhaps we should scout for a close spot. Maybe the other end of the sheares bridge?
c) May need to buy a raincoat, so don't have to carry a cumbersome long umbrella.
d) Set to 5MP instead of 8MP. Cos it takes extra time for the data transfer @2MB per sec. I could use the extra time to take more shots to increase chances of a nice pix.

Bulb mode only in SLR, you could fire at own will in terms of the time.
