3D overrated?

I think 3D is highly overrated. Nowadays every few weeks you hear a "new" 3D product. 3D itself is not a new technology.

In my opinion, 3D is the new VR. Just a dreamy overrated fad.

3D at a consumer level is new, where consumers have the ability to create and view 3D content without using special equipment

3D is way overrated... dont know what it is good for... i dont even like to watch 3D movies

Was definitely part of the consideration when I was making a TV purchase recently.

-Still not much 3D driven content.
-3D is not exactly the 3D i wanted, though it is a start.
-And there is still much non standardization of format at the moment.

Ended up getting a 55" LED panel TV recently.

55"? What's the optimum viewing distance for one of those, yikes!
I had a hard time getting the tv I want though - because I didn't want 3D, wife gets dizzy
Searched high and low for an older model Sony, doesn't help that they change models so frequently, finally found one last one at Sengkang...

A lot of people already have LCD or Plasma tvs so this is a way to try to get people to upgrade.

My new place viewing distance to TV was measured to be just under 3m.
We auditioned a few HT systems with 55 inchers ard the same distance, and it feels great. In fact we saw a 100 incher projection screen and was even better hoho

Definitely cannot underestimate the marketing behind all these. Just a while before 3D, there was much hype and cost regarding LED TVs as well..

3D to me is a fad like VR, being touted then as the next new level in user interface, now it's gone from the consumer market.

The next waves will be 4k TV n perhaps real 3d without cumbersome 3d glasses, the former already slowly trickling with stratospherical prices.

It's mainly because people just do it for the sake of doing so. When you have more movies made specifically for the 3D format, this could change. I'm sure long time ago, colour was viewed as a passing fad. :)

Yeah, wait for the next big thing ... 4D! The TV is said to be able to shoot water and blow wind at you when you watch movies like 2012 ...

...i am waiting for the eggheads to come up with a 3D+VR tech,or at the very least, a volumetric display with interactive interface a'la district 9.
what...i can dream can't i? lol.
