35L & 24L...pls help!

I have the 35L but have not tried the 24L.

For my 5DII, the 35L is versatile and serves me well in shooting people going about their life. A good combination of sharpness and lowlight performance.

Purpose:

1. Suitable for wedding?
2. Corporate events?
3. potrait shoot?

35L. 24L is possible but why make things more difficult for yourself?

I will get the 24mm f1.4...

I recently discover that most of my event and wedding shoot... I often use the 28mm focal length of the EF 28-70mm f2.8L.. more often, I use a EF 20mm prime to shoot indoor... tight place...

my next lens will be the EF 24mm

I was in the same dilemma as you one week ago, and eventually I went with 24LM2 as it is a newer lens in terms of technology with SWC. I did believe that wider is better as I can crop in, you can't make it wider then what the lens can give.

Weather sealing is another reason. I had both weather sealed and non-sealed lens out at sea. The non sealed lens has got water vapor in the lens once in a while, but the sealed lens remains clear through out.

for wedding i would get the 24. for portrait...if i have to choose between the two, i would get the 35mm even though ideally i would get the 85.

Huge difference between 24 and 35 FL. It can only be both and not either or. But what's wrong with your 24-70L?

sorry it is a little bit OOT,i read few books that describe prime lens is better than the zoom one, i has 17-40 and 24-70, i set both of lenses in same focal length, 35 mm, the distortion is difference. i forgot which is better.
my question: if i'm using prime lens, am I get better pictures, in terms of perspective distortion, i interested for 35/1.4 L after see a picture in Leica cataloque, that is half body shoot, but no distortion in shoulder, even not in center picture composition..

Yeah, buy the Leica one.

I have both 24L and 35L.
Both lenses have it's strong points. 24L is perfect for environmental portraits where you want to have your subject as part of the composition.
35L is better when you want your main subject to stand out more than the backgrounds.
Just my two cents...

Based on the stats that I pulled out using a plugin for Lightroom, I have been using 35mm and 50mm most often. But if i have 24mm, I get a 24mm on my FF and 35mm on my 20D. The 50 1.8 will be a 50 on the FF.

But i cant afford a 24mm... at best i'll go for the Sigma 24mm F1.8.

Sigma 24 1.8 isn't HSM.
You'll probably have a hard time focusing in low light. (AF hunting - like a Canon 50mm 1.8)

AF hunting (or not) depends more on the sensitivity of the camera rather than the AF mechanism (USM/HSM or not).

Both are major factors. Try using a 50 1.8. in lowlight even on a 7D.
Wanted to throw it away. lol. My 17-555 2.8 and Siggy 30 1.4 AF are much much faster in locking on.

Thing is all these lenses would hunt but the USM/HSM lenses do them much faster.

Surprised to hear that this lens has problem even with a 7D, which is supposed to have good AF. Its sensor AF down to f5.6 lenses while the 1 series can AF down to f8 lenses, etc. I agree USM/HSM will be much preferred.
