300D stuck mirror!

My mum brought it to Canon for me (I was a bit too busy to go there myself).
She just called me and told me that just for a quote to get it fixed, it's $50, and the maximum cost of the repair is $250.
I'm thinking that I should just bring it to Canon Singapore to get it done. It should take roughly about a week right? Any experience with it taking a very very very long time, months perhaps? for example, if they are really really busy? I'm coming to Singapore in November for my sisters wedding. Maybe I should buy buy buy another body for the timebeing, and then get repaired in Singapore, or something something something :( *decisions* ah!

Hmm ... they do take a week - NORMALLY.

If you do need the camera back urgently - pay a little more for the "express service" and you'll get your camera back in 3 working days.

Anyway, the sub-mirror failure is a known problem for all 300Ds. Its a "sooner or later" thing.

It's the same for ANY SLR - since that submirror is still a mechanical part.

I've decided that I'll wait till I go to Singapore to get it repaired - since they told me here that it'll take 4 weeks because they have to send to Sydney - so by the time I get it back, I'm having exams so no time to play anyway. Then straight after exams I go S'pore, so might as well :)
Exciting! Not enough excuse for me to buy another camera... hahaa :P

My Aunty took it with her to Singapore to get it repaired. I want to know, does she have to call up first before bringing it to Canon? or can she just walk in and book it in?
Thanks!

There is no need to call them 1st. Just go there, take a queue number and wait for your turn.

Thanks Kelccm!
Where is the Canon Service centre (so I can tell my aunty where to go)? I'll try looking on their website.
Is the queue usually very long?

going to funan is slower, cos they have to send the camera to harbourfront. standard wait is at least 5 days for quote. harbourfront can get quote almost immediately... =)

I tot Funan one already closed, move to harbourfront?

I got my 300D at 2004 July and it still working fine. Sometime I use it very nasty lor. Hmm maybe u shoot too much lor. Photographers know all camera got their life spans are depen on shuttle counts. If u shoot very fast then of course ur 300D die faster lor, but at least ur 300D can spent with u for 2 yrs+ lor. Let ur 300D rest forever. I think u have a good time with ur 300D and have a good memory. Get urself a new canon body and continue to enjoy.

yea chayhim, it's been that long huh...but you sure 2002. thats in sec2 leh. we have not even met yf then. we started photogrpahy is sec3 i think.... is it? haha

Go for the 30D

Yup, the day after I told my aunty where to get it fixed, I ordered a 30D :)

2 bodies now... hor hor, one for wide and one for tele? lol...
Yah, the day after I said that my 300d last me so long with no problems, it broke :) haha
