[continued]

However, I have to stress that I took up this particular job because it fit in nicely with my downtime period. There is a possibility of loss-of-income if there should be a better paying job that falls within this period, so it boils down to planning.

In essence, I think photographers should be paid according to the deliverables that are expected of them, and not paid simply because they are photographers.

All this, IMHO, please.

i believe photographers who are doing paid jobs know where they stand. they know their standard and know if they should charge high or at a lower price. you cant expect those who are not as experienced to charge like 120/hr, unless he is certain he can produce the stuff that is worth that money. (of cos i came across a terrible wedding photographer, who charge 700 bucks and his photos are no where near as good as mine, im not saying im very gd but thats to show how bad he is (i was a second photographer helping out my friend and it was my 1st wedding day shoot.) no post process, shots look underexposed, and he think he is a pro)

getting back to topic, i believe there are always a market for different levels of photographer catering to different kinds of clients. there are people who do not require top end pictures and do not want to pay a lot, of cos they will need to know the pictures are not to be those of the top photographers. and there are those who goes for top end pictures knowing that those would be expensive and are willing to pay for it.

IMO gradually the charges for the photography services will rise as one becomes better and more experienced.

as long as we do what we are hired to do, and the clients are happy with the work, i dun see if there is any way anyone one is bringing the industry down

its simple, if you want top quality pictures, pay more. if not dun expect so much.

I understand the pain that many photographers who suffer for their craft so that they can bring a higher level of work and deserve to be compensated as such.

However, we cannot extinguish clients who are willing to accept the risk of having inconsistent results in hope to cut costs.

Whoever in the marcom department wanting to score points by cutting the costs down below the comfort zone of consistent photographers, I say gg to you..

@S-Man: Thanks for the endorsement!

Thanks to all who has PM me a quotation. I have sent a PM to almost all to inform of the outcome of your quotation. I have enough photographers to shortlist from, therefore I will be closing this thread.

Best wishes to all in their photographic endeavours and happy new year!
