Black Mounting Board, can be exact size with the printed pictures right? Does it need to be thick?

Heya guys,

I have a few questions. Hope you guys could enlighten me?

1) Is desaturating parts of a photo, leaving a coloured portion allowed? Is that considered distorting reality?

that is allowed in most cases. what constitutes to distorting reality? showcase what you got, if it doesn't take it again :)

2) Is square crop allowed. That is 10" by 10"?

as far as i know they might allow, but set the dimensions to allow printing at 8r or s8r, meaning you will have empty spaces

3) Which photolab develops e fastest n better photos? average how long does it take to develop 8r n S8R photos?

miao lann, 5mins all done. $2.50 each

4) When I submit my photo prints, must I include e digital copies as well? N e original copies before touch up? Or only upon notification if shortlisted?

keep the digital copies and original, i believe they wan it only upon shortlisting

Thanks Guys!

And All e best for the competition.

Currently doing last minuete work...Pretty rushed...hehh.

2. Each applicant is eligible to submit only 1 set of prints, consisting of 6 prints that must cover at least 4 of the following 8 subject matters:

Abstract
Architecture/Buildings
Children at play
People at work
Portrait(s)
Nature
Still Life
Night Scene

3. Participants who also wish to vie for the CDL Young Architecture Photographer Award in addition to the Singapore Young Photographer Award are required to submit a minimum of 2 images on the subject “Architecture / Buildings” in their portfolio of 6 prints. That is, their portfolio should consist of 2 images on “Architecture / Buildings” and 4 images on 3 or more of the other subjects stated in point 2 above.

Means if i will to select the 2 categories on Architecture / Buildings”, i need to select 3 or more..but if i will to select 3 categories from part 2 only, means i have to repeat it in 1 of my chosen category right?

yup, as long as you got 6 pictures representing four categories minimum.

with 2 architecture, 4 pictures to contain 3 or 4 categories, otherwise, repeat a single category.

Should we leave a black border of mounting board around our photos, or just mount them on a4?

thanks, 4 categories minimum..hmm ok.

Anyway, the informatin written behind the board..what does it mean by subject matter category? Number 6th.

Hi...

May i know where exactly is miao lann located at?

Hi guys, 1 last question, my board is black..and what color ink should i use...? It will not be a good idea to paste a white paper behind it and write your particulars on it right?? For the mounting board, my 12x8 fills up till the left and right side of the board, leaving 2mm at the top and bottom, its all right?

I would be guessing that, if you get a bigger board and hence can leave a bigger border around your pictures, then the aesthetics are a lot better.

Personally, what I did was to paste a printed piece of paper on the back of my mounting board detailing all the stuff that they requested for. Naturally there are plenty of other ways to do it and I'm not sure if any of it would be right or wrong.

If you already bought your mounting board and don't have the time or money to buy new boards then you probably will need to make do with what you have. However I bought something in the order of an A3 mounting board which gives bigger borders around the image and it looks quite nice (the layout I mean, not the pictures).

ugh, so meaning the bigger the border the higer chance u have at win? Thats quite..nvm i will just submit mine my way.

I will paste a piece of printed paper at the back then.

Har...that's not what I said. If your photos have the merit, the mounting board is a secondary issue. Moreover, it was never stated as to what size mounting board you should use...at least, not as far as I remember.

i hope lousy mounting boarrd will not affect much.

u went down and submit?

i am going there by myself to submit, safer

I don't think that's going to be a problem. Presentation is of course important, but like I said, ultimately it depends on your image and whether the judges like it.

ok thanks, i am going to hand deliever it later.

Guys, I have a question:

When the website stated that, "The images must be printed by photographic lab process", does it mean that I can send it to my neighbourhood photo-processing shop to get it printed out, or do I need to source for something else?

Any good East-side 'photographic lab' to recommend?

Many thanks!! :)

Yes. Nice one ...

Really is about your photo ..not the board problem or any other thing

Hey thank you Love_sky!
Do you know Gracelab's address and opening hours? :)

I'm smacked in the midst of examinations right now, and am quite tied-up with errands to be done over these few days too, so I found Miao Laan's a bit too out-of-the-way for me
