Hello,

not sure if here is the right place to post this. I'm using a nikon FM with a 50mm 1.4 manual lens. I shot about 2 rolls of films and sent it in for developing, BUT NOTHING CAME OUT!

I tested the shutter without the film inside and it seems to be working.

What other problems could there be?

The films were most probably not loaded properly.

Can you confirm the film is loaded properly? the film shoot until frame 36-37 and unable to advance anymore?

Think there could be quite a no. of reasons....

No pictures means the negatives are all dark or all transparent? Did you check out the negatives for any slightest details? Check the films' expiry date, put through intense heat or X-ray machine (actually only partial is lost if through X-ray).

If it is all transparent, maybe check your winder if it is advancing the film,..... it happened to me before with with F3hp, where the multiple exposure lever did not disengage from the beginning...shooting blanks and I did not notice until the end because I was on the MD4.:embrass:

It's also possible to confirm if the film is loaded correctly by making sure that the rewind crank is turning everytime you turn the film advance lever. You just need to check during the first 2-3 shots

Agree, I was about to say that. :)

Hi all, thanks for your replies. So I think ultimately the problem lies with the loading of the films and not really the camera?

WRT to checking of the films after 2-3?
How exactly do I do that?
Just open up the back with the film loaded, pulling the advance lever?

No not opening up the back cover. What fatigue mentioned above is, after the film was loaded, when shooting the 1st 2-3 shots, take a look at the rewind crank when when pulling the advance lever. You should see the rewind crank turning.

Alternatively, after loaded the film and closed the back cover, advance one or two frames and take note of the the rewind crank (the 1st one or two frames are the exposed leader and should be done away anyway). The rewind crank should be turning when you pull the advance lever. If it doesn't the film is most probably not loaded properly.

when you want to load the film into the camera,
you depress the shutter release button and wind the film advance level a couple of times,
make sure the take up spool is turning when you turn the film advance level,

once you load the film inside, make sure the take up spool is engage with top and bottom of the film sprocket holes,
before you close the back cover, you can tighten the film rewind crank,
close the back cover, forward the film, you will see the film rewind crank turning while you forwarding the film.

now you know your film is loaded properly.

other then this, one possible cause is shutter is not working,
but you have rule this out.

Inspect the negatives that came back from development.

1) if totally transparent; means totally unexposed; means the film never got wound out of the cassette; could be film leader was not catching properly on the takeup spool, or could be faulty winder (worn out gear in the winder mechanism); open back cover when not loaded, crank winder n see if the takeup spool actually turns; if not, send for repairs.

2) if film is complete dark throughout the entire strip; the film has been exposed to daylight accidentally or damaged. Try a fresh new roll.

3) check also that your shutter n lens aperture blades are working properly.

Good luck.

Thanks all for your help. I've loaded a fresh new roll of film.

I think the most probable reason is because I did not load the film properly. Hahaha. Will get this roll developed and we shall see again!

my 1st roll of film for each different camera also same thing, gone case the pictures
