2-month old Olympus OMD E-M5 Mark ii accidentally fell in swimming pool :(

Heard some reports before that pentax k7 got submerged in the ocean but still working. Looks like their weather proofing is far more superior.

Reminds me of the D3s that survived being frozen, apparently...

That unit must be special. I have seen a few D3s become paper weight after used in the rain.

That bad? I used my D3 for an assignment and it was sprayed by sea water, I rinsed it under a tap and dried it afterwards, still working fine

Wow ... I was told that BKK is very safe and low theft rate like HK ... thanks for sharing ... cheers

Sorry to hear about this.
Hope things are getting better for you (Thread starter: Foxit). You may have a bad start but hopefully it wont deter you from enjoying this hobby.
And yes..it can be costly.

Also few reminders.. that had been emphasize much over and over again...

Weather sealed.. does not mean Water proof. Even it's sealed.. it still depends on your luck. Most of the times. If you feel its not safe.. then dont use it. Unless you're being paid and have no choice at all. If not 1 should bear the consequences should anything bad happen. Logical.

To the quote above...Very safe/Low crime rate.. does not mean no crime. Also shouldn't be taken lightly or for granted of. Your stuff can be stolen anywhere if you're not careful. Yes. Anywhere. So regardless where you are..always keep and eye on your items..be vigilant and think before you execute (some may not like it but layman term: practice common sense).

I believe it's the sudden change in temperature caused water vapor inside the camera to condensate.
The water cause short circuit and rusting inside the camera.

This one I can attest to that. That's why I was taught to pack equipment into a ziplock and only remove it after a while when moving between places with big temperature differences.

wow... fried like chicken wing... sorry for your loss bro...

Some cameras may be weather sealed but we still need to take some extra precaution. Unless of course the shot is more important that the camera
The effect of water may not show up right away. Corrosion takes some time.

Congrats! That is very impressive. :)

Bro it's around 700++ (body and lens) because some electronic components were already damaged.. The agreement ws if no damaged components, they only charged me around 350 for the cleaning but if some damaged components inside, I have to pay for the component cost in addition to the 350..

Imagine olympus qouted me 1.3k++ body only and said lens cannot be saved.. I don't know but my feeling was if the service man from olympus did not try to turn ON that camera while I sent that for check, maybe it does not have some damaged components inside.. I was expecting that they would not turn it before they open it because it's expected to still have water inside that would short circuit some components... I dropped it in pool switched off and take the bat immediately.. Anyway, it's still my fault because I did not remind my wife to remind the Olympus guys not to turn it ON. I really not expecting they would do that silly thing.. Anyway, got my camera and lens back again :)
