5D for me - lighter and better for travel.

Decision made, not upgrading now, no point. Wait for the next generation. The 5D is very temption, but other than FF, does not offer anything I need when compare to my 20D. well, this is now, but when the virus strikes, who knows what I am going to do. :)

Please send some of your photo to show us the problem of the FF body, since you own the FF body we will like to learn from you more. Thanks.

Relax lah, Bro. He doesn't own any full frame bodies. What he has is 2 pieces of 1D mk I bodies. ;p

1D mk1x2 =mk2...hehe

john: two cheaper babes better than one more expensive babe ;) hehe

ok maybe i shouldnt have used the word crappy to describe FF. but i am a sucker for built-in crop factors..since more of a tele shooter than wde shooter here.

but given a choice if i have to take a FF body, i will take the old 1dsmk1 for the build quality and ergonomics.

Which one will you choose given that both are Full Frame bodies? Forget about 1Ds mk II as it's just too expensive for the majority.

The price of 2nd hand 1Ds mk I is closed to the price of 5D.

Primary differences between the 2 bodies are :

5D compared to 1Ds mk I :

1) Digic II
2) 2.5" LCD
3) 12.8MP
4) Optional battery grip
5) E-TTL II
6) 3 fps for up to 60 consecutive JPEG or 17 RAW frames in a burst

1Ds mk I compared to 5D :

1) 45 focusing points
2) 100% viewfinder coverage
3) weather-sealed body

5D for me..

There must be some difference between the 1D series......
Have not tried the 5D, but still 1DS for me. Cause I have one and still love it.

45-AF point, weather sealed body, 100% viewfinder coverage...?

you can... get the 1DsMKII.... hehe...

Yah. This option wasn't in the poll. Best of both worlds.

Cheers,

You forget the shutter lag/mirror black out times.

57/87 ms versus 75/145 ms.

11.4 versus 12.7 MP is not significant IMO.

Everything else, I'd expect the 5D to be the superior camera because of the later generation electronics and processor.

Cheers,

Bro, already mentioned in the first thread that 1Ds mk II is just too expensive for the majority, so left out that option.

Handled a 1Ds for one "shoot".

Hated it! Damn bloody heavy when coupled with a 2.8 lens! If I need to put this monster on a tripod, I might as well use my 4x5! Afterall, I do not photograph sports or running animals.

You're not wrong. I wished all professional cameras with a standard zoom weigh like an Oly E-1. The 1Ds is unemployable as a 'walk-about' camera unless you're very stoic.

I was contemplating buying another 1Ds after a previous one I returned because of a scratch found on the sensor (lowpass filter), but decided to wait for a 5D.

I'm glad I did.

If nothing else, my preference is for a 5D user interface... which I think is easier to use than the 1Ds ... which takes some getting used to.

1Ds are nice to handle.. .but heavy and bulky. So it depends on your shooting style.

if FF..go for 1ds.

for the pro-specs

there's something about top end bodies that is special and not found in non-top end bodies..hard to describe..i guess its the way they make it so good

Now CP have drop the price of 5D $5700 & below...forget about the 1Ds...old technology and noisy pic...CCD right? Even Sony have start to use CMOS sensor (23mm x 15mm) at their 10 mega pixel cam at $1600 only...

its the body construction that gives the different feeling.

once a 1 class, always a 1 class. nothing else comes close:thumbsup:
